    Central Heating leak sealer

Thanks for the reply. Don’t think get a plumber with heat gun in will help as there are no visible leaks and lifting the floor boards is not an option atm. As to the size of the installation. it’s a 3 bed mid terrace and has 2 largish double rads ( 1 switched off) and 6 medium/small single...

    Central Heating leak sealer

Central heating system has been losing pressure for a few weeks now. Pressure drop varies from day to day, can be as much as 0.7 bar or as little as 0.3 bar. Have checked the “overflow” pipe and that is dry as a bone, put a plastic bag over it just to double check. So assume the PRV and...

Fixing a toilet to a wooden floor

Thanks for the reply. If I understand it correctly you are saying that once the pan is fitted I can apply the clear silicon then wipe of the excess. This would only leave a very small amount of silicon in the radius of the bottom edge of the pan. Would that be strong enough to withstand...

    Water Stained Floor

Anyone know whether the idea of using wood bleach, stain then wax would help? Or would the wood bleach make things worse?

Fixing a toilet to a wooden floor

When I fixed my toilet to the wooden floor I didn’t put a bead of silicon around the edge as I don’t really like the look of it and prefer the clean lines. However I now realise the error of my ways as every time the toilet is cleaned of gets condensation the water get trapped under the toilet...

    Water Stained Floor

Thanks for the reply. Don’t think I can claim of the insurance as the faulty valve happened a few years ago. Thinking more about the further damage feel it maybe because I didn’t silicon the base of the bowl and the condensation would be seep under the edges and be unable to dry. Thus...

    Water Stained Floor

Sometime back the cistern ball valve was faulty and every time the toilet was flushed water would spray out of the top and soak the floor. Built in cistern so didn’t notice it for some time. That caused some damage to the floor but since then it has got slowly worse. The leak was fixed a long...

    Tracking

Sorry for the late reply. Have just got a depth gauge that can measure 0.1mm’s so that I can carefully measure the wear over a short period of time. Just trying to find a reliable repeatable method of taking the measurements. Hopefully will give a better indication of the wear...

The rears are over inflated as well but they are wearing evenly. But then I suppose they don't have to do any steering of have any camber Since now have fitted energy savers to the front will try at correct pressure and see how they go.

Thought over inflation USED to cause the middle of the tyre to wear faster. Not so much these days cause of how the tyre construction has changed. Under inflation would cause both out side edges to wear faster.

Hi Brought a repaired cat D Hyundai Getz turbo desiel with only 700 miles on the clock some 12.000 miles ago. Just had to replace the front tyres because the outside edge of the tyre had worn. Centre and inside edge were still well within the legal limit. As far as i'm aware the...

    Sandy coloured cement

Many moons ago I had the front drive crazy paved. The grouting between the stones ended up a nice sandy yellow colour with white specks in it. I asked the builder at the time how he achieved that nice colour rather than the “normal” rather monotonous grey cement colour. He assured me that it was...

Delivering building supplies. Is it possible?

Thanks again for the further replies. To answer the points rasied : Did think about getting and old pickup or even just an old banger and cutting the top off. But the project would have been done slowly over a few years as funds became available so felt the cost of insurance road tax mot etc...

Delivering building supplies. Is it possible?

I don't like hiring things your going to use a few time either so sounds like buying a second hand trailer would have been the best bet. Unfortunatly seems that the purchase is going to fall through anyway so problem solved. It was going to be a lot of work but should have been worth it so...

Delivering building supplies. Is it possible?

Unfortunately although its a semi rural location within surrey is basically NT land rather than farm land and as such no local farmers. Wife and I really love the property but this is really putting me off as I can foresee us not being able to do the work we would need/want to do...

Delivering building supplies. Is it possible?

So is that a definite no to a normal builders lorry? I did consider buying a small trailer that my car could tow but in the end rejected that idea. If I had a delivery of more than one pallet of bricks or sand etc problem would be how to unload the first load, in order to go back and get...

Delivering building supplies. Is it possible?

Looking at buying a property that will need quite a bit of work doing on. It will need a lot of building materials, bricks, sand, ballast etc. May also at some point require scaffolding? The property however has what I feel is fairly restricted access. Access is provided via a tarmac...
