Attaching a chandelier to the ceiling with no obvious attachment point

I've taken down an existing light fitting with a view to replacing it with a nicer chandelier. The light which was removed was mounted to a 15cm long metal bar with protruding ends, and the bar itself was affixed to the ceiling using rawlplugs and a couple of screws. What's left is what you can...

Scratched varnish on wooden kitchen counter - how to fix?

Thank you. Does the whole part of that worktop need rubbing back or just the local area? I take it a "touching up" isn't possible? Very hesitant of making a worse job of it.

Need to mount TV to plasterboard but can't locate studs

Can't penetrate, so I think I have the answer and a few Rigifix have been ordered - thanks! Looks like some sort of concrete brick, overlayed with a thin layer of green (painted) plaster. Whatever it is it's definitely hard to penetrate and barely chips away.

Need to mount TV to plasterboard but can't locate studs

Unfortunately my earlier description was an oversimplification. Fortunately I have a map available for illustration. The green circle below sits on the wall in question (running horizontally, left-right). The big void behind it where the vacuum never made any tracks is where the bathroom is. I...

Need to mount TV to plasterboard but can't locate studs

I drilled six of them and had no luck with any (residue on the drill bit suggested I'd hit plasterboard in all cases). They were horizontally spaced across where the stud finder thought there was a stud (it was finding something fairly consistently vertical on this part of the wall). You're of...

Need to mount TV to plasterboard but can't locate studs

Sorry, that's a typo - it's a 65". I don't have the exact model number to hand, but Googling around for 65" LG LCDs brings me to the 25-30Kg ball park. I think it's a 1930s property, but it's had some extensive renovation in the last decade or two when this particular wall may have been...

Need to mount TV to plasterboard but can't locate studs

Yes, it's a flat one! I think the TV weighs about 25kg, so I think that'll be reasonably manageable for most fixings? You have me concerned about whether I've correctly established it's masonary behind there now - thanks for the recommendation of the Rigifix fixings; I hadn't come across them...

Scratched varnish on wooden kitchen counter - how to fix?

Sorry, I've Googled but had no luck: What's a redcoat?

Need to mount TV to plasterboard but can't locate studs

I'm trying to locate the studs in a plasterboard wall to mount a 75" TV but so far with no luck. I've attempted to use a stud finder, but upon drilling into the wall where it locates a stud I'm finding no more than the 15mm plasterboard seen in the pics below. It seems to be locating "studs"...

Scratched varnish on wooden kitchen counter - how to fix?

I've managed to scratch what appears to be some sort of varnish coating on a wooden kitchen counter at my new house (although it appears to be a varnish of sorts it's really really thin). Pictures below. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to improve/remedy this?

30mm metal back box - do these exist?

Fair enough. Thank you - seems an obvious solution now you point it out; I just thought the boxes had to be set to the same depth as they currently are.

30mm metal back box - do these exist?

I'm sat here reading back the responses trying to understand the context of your reply, and I now acknowledge I misunderstood what was meant by the earlier one, sorry! Yes, I guess that's an option I hadn't considered. Any downsides to this?

30mm metal back box - do these exist?

I'm looking to replace an existing metal 30mm single gang back box with a dual gang one, to accommodate a LightwaveRF light switch I'm fitting. It has to be at least 30mm to accommodate the LightwaveRF modules, and I don't wish to chisel out the existing cavity to accommodate a 35mm deep box...

    Lightwave slave cabling query

Thanks. Reading it back now I agree the way I worded it is nonsense. Actually, I did! In attempting the above brain dump I omitted to mention it. Here it is... COM - Brown L1 - Blue (same core as above) L2 - Blue (separate, single, cable) So it looks like I have (upstairs -> downstairs)...

Leaking slow fill valve in toilet

I did say it was moved "as far as it goes", and that the valve was "closed". Apologies for not being clearer (y)

Leaking slow fill valve in toilet

There's plenty of travel left in the float. A good inch or two. Pulling the lever arm up that remaining inch or two doesn't shut the flow off. Edit: In fact, now that I recall how I did it - I even disconnected the lever arm from the float to allow for complete movement in the lever arm to its...

Leaking slow fill valve in toilet

Sounds exactly like mine. Yes I've checked both. From my original post - "I've taken the valve apart and inspected the rubber diaphragm [...] There's a small rubber block just above a pin-hole [...] but again it seems damage-free." I haven't, but even with it manually closed (grab the pivot by...
