Replacing a ceiling rose with a light that only has L/N/E co

Thanks for the replies, the dimensions of the base are 95mm diameter x 28mm deep. This currently contains some wiring for the spotlight and a 3 terminal connector block. If absolutely necessary I can make a hole in the ceiling above the light to house cabling/connectors. Regarding...

Replacing a ceiling rose with a light that only has L/N/E co

Good afternoon We've just purchased a spotlight for the office room and it only has LNE connectors in it. The current set up is a standard ceiling rose which carries on round the upstairs lighting circuit. I have had a quick look in the wiki, as this covers the conundrum I am in...

    Damp Proof course

My word this is becoming an interesting debate again! Anobium, I am interested in what techniques there are to test for damp as well as using a conductivity meter, the damp 'tests' that I was conned into believing some years ago were based solely on conductivity meter test results. So...

    Damp Proof course

I have some questions Dave:- Were the salts confirmed only in the plaster (which was then removed) or also in the brickwork? Was there a physical gap between the plaster and the floor or did the plaster extend all the way to the floor? What was the floor made from? Where is the evidence...

    Madeleine

If I remember correctly the press quoted the mother as saying "they've taken her" when she emerged from the hotel room having discovered her daughter was missing. Both me and my missus thought this was an unusual thing to say given the circumstances.

removing floor tiles from chipboard floor

In a bathroom?? I'd rip the whole lot out and get some decent ply laid. Have a look in the flooring forum, chip and bathrooms is not recommended.

    Aqua panel

Aquapanel is heavier than drywall plasterboard, hence needs screwing to the walls to hold it in place. It would probably fall off under it's own weight before the adhesive sets.

Strategy for nice painted walls – experts, please advise

By the time you've done all that a plasterer could have PVA'd and skimmed the walls for you. It is well worth getting some quotes for having the walls skimmed, it could be cheaper than you'd think and would aviod all the messing about stripping paint, putting filler in holes etc.

    Damp Proof course

A ha! That old chestnut eh?? I bet the surveyor even recommended that they get a second opinion from a "damp specialist company", who of course would be totally impartial in their recommendations  . I had a house surveyed and was told there was a rising damp problem in some internal...

Why do they need a chemical 'dpc' injecting into the property? How has the presence of damp being confirmed?

Damp problem in rendered Victorian property

Did you ask him to define exactly what he meant by "interstitial" condensation? Interstitial is a term used in chemistry and materials science to describe atomic placement within crystallographic structures, not quite the term I'd associate with a bit of condensation in a house. Or was he...

    Aquapanel fitting

Richard, thanks, I have read about these through fixings in another post/thread on this subject which I should have read before placing my post. I am currently in debate with the missus as to whether we need a bath or just fit a shower enclosure - this influences what needs doing with respect...

    Aquapanel fitting

I'm trying to find out how to fit aquapanel and from various places it seems that battening the walls is the best thing (so that I can get them plumb etc) The question is - what size of batten? Does it just need to be enough to pack the panel out plumb? Do I need to screw into the batten...

    Justice system

Just seen on BBC website - muslim extremist linked to 7/7 - gets 7 1/2 years in jail. Polish cleaner murders an old lady and spends her savings - gets 20 years in jail. Is this right - it certainly doesn't seem so to me!!
