Is it worth getting boiler serviced?

So can't I just get the h/e replaced Agile? There's nothing really wrong with the unit other than I suspect it might be inefficient - might just be her indoors and her nightly baths! [/i]

Is it worth getting boiler serviced?

Isn't that a bit melodramatic DP? As I said, I'd planned to scrap it (we wanted it moved and it was going to cost almost as much to move as to get a new one). A plumber also said it "didn't sound great" but a work-around means it no longer needs moved and it's lasted this long, so I'm...

Is it worth getting boiler serviced?

I'm actually thinking calling out for a "service" would inflate any cost, maybe better just calling them out asking them for a quote on doing a specific job (that is, if I can determine an issue beforehand). Thanks gas112, will check out the diverter.

Is it worth getting boiler serviced?

Ah, I thought calling out for a service, they'd possibly be cleaning out a few elements but I see it's mostly checking (and giving the option of repairs). I'd read someone else mentioning they'd taken the heat exchanger out and cleaning it with the pressure washer - would that be worth doing...

Is it worth getting boiler serviced?

I've got a baxi 80e combi boiler, think it's about 7 years old - was in the property a few years before me and had had the main Pcb replaced. I'd planned to scrap it (thinking it wouldn't last long) but I've not had to touch it in 3 years, other than replace the dhw diaphragm a couple of times...

Wired alarm for 2 doors - minimum cost (DIY)?

No, just on a hill! Suppose the cellar is quite tall - externally, it's about 5ft from ground to the bottom of the window, then the window's about 4-5ft up to the hopper.

Wired alarm for 2 doors - minimum cost (DIY)?

I stay in a small semi-bungalow in an area that's generally regarded as very safe. I'm not daft though, I know burglary can happen to anyone and I'd sleep better knowing I'd taken some sort of precaution. But I also know these things can grow arms & legs, so I'm not going to go nuts. The...

Hot water randomly doesn't work - diverter?

Quick bump, just hoping someone could confirm if it'll be the larger of the 2 diaphragms?

Hot water randomly doesn't work - diverter?

Thanks Picasso - might try replacing that then and also giving the diverter a clean/oil. I found a diaphragm kit for the Baxi 80e - it mentions that there's two diaphragms for this and the kit is for the larger of the two. That sound ok?

Hot water randomly doesn't work - diverter?

Hi DP - no, the hot water will (sometimes) work weather the heating is on or not.

Hot water randomly doesn't work - diverter?

Sorry Tony, it's an 80e - just added some more info re. the diverter.

Hot water randomly doesn't work - diverter?

Been having this problem with my Baxi boiler on and off for a couple of months now - the central heating works fine but the hot water only randomly comes on. You can see that the pilot's not always lighting and the hot tap will run stone cold. Sometimes you can coax it into life by running...

Can I do my own BW plans for attic ensuite?

I do now :P But seriously, thanks to users here, the architect and the plumber I think I've got most areas covered. And I haven't done any work yet so not sure what you mean  But, yes, it does seem an odd thing for them to say when they don't have any interest/intention of...

Can I do my own BW plans for attic ensuite?

Yeah, it's just a little end-terraced bungalow Damian - they said we didn't need to submit/approve anything (other than the window where applicable), but just to do it to current regs. The rafters are the 400mm unfortunately - I'm on google just now trying to see what I can get but I suppose...

Can I do my own BW plans for attic ensuite?

Thanks again for that info Richard - I had the plumber back for a more in-depth consult today and, as you had mentioned, we discussed the possibility of putting in a new soil pipe. We decided this would be the best option, running towards the front of the house, where there's only 2-3m of run...

Can I do my own BW plans for attic ensuite?

No problem, was just prudent to check, I understand. Regarding drainage, a friends brother told me the following: you need to check what fall, might get away with a 1:150 fall depending on the size of the pipe (a drawing should tell you). Some falls have to be 1:80 or 1:40 though which would...

Can I do my own BW plans for attic ensuite?

Ok, just spoke to a helpful lady at the local building control and have some good news (I'm sure you're all on the edge of your seats  ). The previous owner hadn't applied for any plans etc but were concerned about this when selling so had consulted BC who had inspected & granted them a...

Can I do my own BW plans for attic ensuite?

I'm going from fuzzy recollections here but as mentioned, I think the plans had be ok'd before the work started and we were told that as the work had been done (and has stood there for 20-odd years) it was ok. Do you know what this 'notes of comfort' means (can't seem to find reference on...
