    central heating procedure

I spent weeks trying to clear an air lock when I extended radiators into the utility room and downstairs loo. There was a particularly awkwark bend in the run and so the air was stuck tight until I could run a significant amount of water through the system...not so easy with a combi!! All's ok...

    Awkward undersink pipework

I have a 90 deg bend waste pipe leading to the outside, but it is through the back of a unit. I am looking to replace the sink and accompanying pipework and want to know how I can replace this joint. It looks like solvent weld to me but no 100% sure. The new sink will have 1 1/2 bowls and I...

    Metal kitchen sink

I am replacing a kitchen sink from ceramic to metal. Going back over past threads there are many mentions of earthing the sink!!! Some go back before the Part P new requirements and before amendments to 7671 so am getting confused. When should I ever bond a kitchen sink???

to tile or not to tile

we are pretty slack with keeping the kent branch website up to date, but that doesnt mean that we arent working on it. We inform our members via "The Pipeline" that I edit every quarter or so, but I have your email now so can send you a copy of that with any relevant info on it Al

to tile or not to tile

Well the tiling courses we are looking at are in Rye or in Harlow, so if you are interested you can leave me a mailie on [email protected] so I can keep you informed. We are looking at about £200 for a weekend course that they would lay on for us as we all know how hard it is to get a...

to tile or not to tile

I have recently had a nasty experience by having to use another (recommended!!) tiler when my usual tiler was too busy. They charged £600 for about 12 sq metres of tiles, including grout and adhesive. I initially thought that this was a bit steep, but they had done an excellent job with the...

    Plastering ceiling

Been told by my plasterer that he cannot plaster over my plasterboarding as it is not adequately secured...we have very few joists to tie it to. Plastering it now would mean it cracking by the morning :( There is a main join running the width of the room that is only supported at either end...

    Bonding a bathroom

Great!!! hadnt thought of that...its directly behind the bathroom wall and the pull switch is only 3" from the wall, so an easier job. More sensible and less work...just how i like it

    Bonding a bathroom

Would it be ok to run the earth bonding from the pull switch...down the wall behind capping and tiling...to under the bath where ALL heating and water pipework comes out of the wall from the cylinder in the adjoining bedroom where the airing cupboard is sited? This is also the wall where the new...

    Relocating wc

I am trying to move a toilet from its existing position on an outside wall round 90degs to an internal wall. There is lots of room for all the bends and I will need 3 90deg bends to do this, but other than ensuring the fall is adequate, is there anything else I should look out for? There is...

    WC Float

Literally just pop into a decent plumbing merchant...with your one in tow and explain the problem to them and they will point you to something that can replace it if necessary. As I said, I havent seen one of those before and they may have a restrictor in it due to most new system being under...

    WC Float

I found that the flow was severely restricted in a bathroom I refitted earlier this year even though I didnt change the pipework too much. I did have to replace as much as poss with 22mm and that helped, but the tap was one of the new types that needed a high flow rate...so that answered one...

    wc valve letting by

SORTED...one of those late night revelation sort of things...the pipe wasnt 2" long...it had been snapped off!!! It was supposed to run to the top of the overflow pipe DOH! There was just enough to reconnect the pipe to both ends luckily so now all ship shape, water tight and working AT LAST...

    wc valve letting by

is this the problem?... "the small tube that goes from the fill valve to the overflow tube is too long and sticks down too far into the overflow tube it is possible with some valves to have water siphon into the overflow tube and cause the level to drop sufficiently to cause the tank fill valve...

    wc valve letting by

stopped the damned thing leaking now with a new donut, and had to wedge the cistern level to the pan...all hunky dory. NOW the damned thing is letting by at the flush end of the valve (its one of these new drop valve things) as it has a small pipe out of the top of the drop flap that is open. I...

    Remote shower

Job-n-knock....looksie... you're late with that one http://www.youreable.com/TwoShare/getPage/07Equipment/04Equipment%20shop/Equipment%20Entries/Clos-O-Mat Japs have been using them for years. We have them for the disabled over here if they are in VERY upmarket homes, otherwise it is...

    Remote shower

Its one of these gadget things that guys (yes guys!!!) are asking me for...they have seen them on the TV and want the shower running for them by the time they fall into the en suite... Honestly, there is a call for it, but cant understand why they are only available for thermostatic showers and...

    Remote shower

I am looking for a remote shower control. Groehe do one for a thermostatic shower, but cannot find anything for an electric one. Is there any reason why you cannot have a remote (say next to the bed) to switch on an electric shower? Surely an electric shower is easier to remotely control with...

    Leaking close coupled pan

Another hour of fiddling with snap off wedges and still no luck. Am gonna try the new donut thing tomorrow...then out comes the sealant. It only seems to leak when I flush, so the holes where it holds cistern to the pan are keeping tight....just the washer thingy that this one has around the...
