Sounds like my house was when i bought it. Completely rewired now though. As plugwash said , at least get to a point where you know where every cable is going and where every join is.

You can use normal laminate(I believe) and join the edges with stair nosing. I'm in the process of starting this myself on my stairs, just having a bit of trouble finding the correct stair nosing. Theres a post on here somewhere about laminating stairs.

You could try and modify a car ignition system to do the job, could modify the plastic door handle and embed two metal prongs into it. When the intruder touches the handle/prongs they get a nice 20,000 volts through their hand. :D

I am thinking about laminating my stairs but cant seem to find the stair nosing. B&Q dont seem to sell it, although if they did it would probably be too expensive. Does anyone know where I can get it from? I am in South wales area.

I used a hot air paint stripper and metal wall paper stripper to scrape mine off, it stinks a bit when doing it but it comes off easily.

The fuse carrier for my main fuse has 60A marked on it, dont want to have to pull it to see what it actually is but is there another way to tell what the fuse rating is (ie, will REC tell me over phone?). If it is only 60A then what is the procedure for getting it upgraded?
