Wouldn't lack of water flow point to air rather than pumps or bypass? I suppose the pump not turning on might cause it.

I think I probably have 2 or 3 mm of stuff on the pipe wall but the performance of all radiators is now excellent. If I stick a pipe brush through the bit I don't cut out will the dust left cause more problems?

Answered my own question (Photo below) The older pump I fitted back is now also showing debris. So now back with the new (and cleaned) UPS2 and mostly silent. It's on speed 1 constant with plenty of air bubbles working their way through. But the boiler has a bit of a whine I've not heard...

Which would have worked fine except you took the Room Stat out of the hall and put it in the living room. So the hall radiator is working overtime because the Room Stat is in a room where the TRV has turned off.

Most people leave the Room Stat in the hall and that radiator is the one without a TRV. The hall will be responsible for turning the boiler on and off. All the others will have their temperature controlled by TRVs

The shape of the bits is difficult to understand. If you look at the pump picture at about 2 O'clock you can see the bits have a rounded profile. The shape is quite small and no relation to 22mm pipes. Have they come out of the boiler? Plus they are magnetic and crumble if you really compress them.

Agile; you might be onto something with flow speed. I've put the lockshield back to where it was originally. But now I have a radiator with a different flow pattern since I turned it over. Also the other radiators had TRVs meaning they were probably off. I'll do the temperature drop next.
