Advice on knocking concrete block walls down - technique.

Hi I'm looking to merge the toilet and bathroom and move a bedroom door in order to reduce the size of the landing and gain space in the bathroom. Means knocking down one 3' * 3' L shape and one 3' * 3' * 3 U shape (reducing the size of a large airing cupboard). Walls are not load bearing -...

Immersion tank only half fills after moving it

Well both tanks were empty when I started filling so the loft tank outlet will have been uncovered - so plenty of opportunity to gulp air. That said the pipe run is a short horizontal then a vertical drop to the immersion inlet - not much opportunity for air locks, but you never know. Loft tank...

Immersion tank only half fills after moving it

Forgot to say - poked my finger in the inlet and nothing obstructing there. Yes vent re-connected (used most of the same pipework) - trapped air in the tank did cross my mind, but nothing happened when I undid the outlet (can't get much more venting than that).

Immersion tank only half fills after moving it

Moved the immersion tank (eco 7 electric only) today - about 3 foot sidewards and turned the loft tank 90 degrees to make plumbing it back in easier. On completion let the loft tank fill slowly and checked for leaks - all good - so started tiding up while monitoring. After a while I notice...

Honeywell Y plan valve head removal

Valve has V4073A1039 on one end, it's about 25 years old with no dimple, but once you lift the cover off there are 4 screws (the ones I tried unscrewing - but got drip from between the valve and the head so did back up).

Honeywell Y plan valve head removal

Can you remove the head without draining the system? Heating's playing up this evening, quickly narrowed it down to no output on the orange wire (and all works fire if you hot-wire the boiler to the thermostat output). Look like a new head is needed, so I just tried losening the screws...

    dual/multi monitor screensavers

If you are not using the computer, let it turn the monitor(s) off altogether and save a few trees. So you are sat there watching the screen saver! Methinks you might need a life

broken Triton hose - help !

Any chance of carefully cutting a diagonal slot in it (with a hacksaw blade), putting a screwdriver in the slot and twisting to expand/break it (if you see what I mean). Better to deliberately butcher the part you are going to replace than break the connector on the shower unit.

    Buying Car/Van batteries

I always get my Vauxhall batteries from my local main dealers - for some reason their genuine batteries are very cheap (£30-£35 for a vectra normally). Far cheaper than 3rd party shops.

Please help! Not the usual "noisy pipes" problem..

Is the (their) stop cock in your kitchen fully open or only partially open. Partially open stop cocks can be noisy (as the water rushes through the restriction).

    Mounting box for thick plasterboard

If by double thinkness you mean two layers. Simply trim the layer at the back to allow the lugs to grip the top layer only.
