Getting one back on the distributors - very useful info..

As I stated, they have no records down to a specific house. I of course took his name and time of call. As I said above do you get in writing confirmation of the earthing type at each job you work on (I don't, I make an assumption on what is visible, in general)? At least in this instance I...

Getting one back on the distributors - very useful info..

I have contacted the DNO and they have informed me the property is PME The previous "good" earth from the gas pipe is now effectively PEB. Why would there be no RCD protection, its a dual RCD new board with RCBOs for smokes and alarm. Why is that dangerous ? Any earthing system demands...

Getting one back on the distributors - very useful info..

I had a board change yesterday where the supply was overhead , the fusebox was earthed using the incoming gas (actually a good earth at 75ohm!). The service head was PME. I called central networks "PME team" (after 10 minutes of going round the houses), and asked if the supply has been...

    The Price is right ?

I know, it doesnt have to firerated as its not a fire rated ceilings. But I find that the building inspectors wrongly get hung up on it its not worth the hassle. Also don't need hoods, are fully enclosed other than ventilation holes and are in my opinion a better all round luminaire. I also get...

    The Price is right ?

No...A day to terminate 2 socket radials, 2 lighting radials, a smoke radial and a cooker radial into a new CU, install an isolator switch to the main tails, then to a henley block then to new CU (and old CU)...then to test and certify.

    The Price is right ?

Its me and a mate. I based it on 5 days, 160 for me 80 for him therefore 30 an hour. I guess the question then is, is 5 days too much ? Problem is as you can guess this particular builder is not the best project maanger so theres lots of alterations, time wasted while other trades are also...

    The Price is right ?

All good points ColJack, I doubt he gives a toss tho as long as someone will sign it off. I for one wouldn't second fix someone elses work, for both the reasons you outline, and also the sheer ball ache of working out whats what ! In fact in future I may employ some secret code and label the...

    The Price is right ?

Good point  However it is generally nice work, no furniture, carpets etc just plasterers chasing you round and builders pulling ceilings and walls down around you while the plumbers bang rads over your first fix  Seriously thoigh just needed a sanity check on the price, seem ok...

    The Price is right ?

Coventry. I think he thought less than a grand. The problems are a) he hasn't grasped the 17th and the need and therefore cost of "RCDing" the new stuff and sorting out existing supply and bonding. b) His old sparky was the semi retired 100 a day classic c) He wants to add his "mars bar" on...

    The Price is right ?

    32A C-Form Sockets

Take your point, RF. However, a cable providing a supply to a consumer unit in a marquee is, for the duration of the marquee, fixed ! There doesn't seem to be a specific section for marquees, 711 and 714 seem to be close a marquee doesnt quite fall into either. 711 for example talks of...

    32A C-Form Sockets

"Mobile equipment up to 32A that is for use outdoors." Hmmm..Question is does this requirement include fixed or temporary cabling to said equipment? If this is the case all outdoor distribution systems provided in marquees, tents, stages etc fed via a distribution circuit must not have...

    32A C-Form Sockets

Thinking is that the marquee company will connect cables from the garage to the marquee distrib. system, and then onward 30mA RCDs to sockets etc. So I want to provide some supplementary fault protection as far as the marquee, so 100mA for discrimination. Also if they have a faulty RCD then...

    32A C-Form Sockets

Do these come in single phase ? The requirement is to provide a 32A and 16A supply for a Wedding Marquee. My intention was to install a small unit in the garage (fed from an existing 45A switch fuse) with 100mA RCD main switch and 2 ways, 16A & 32A to a board adjacent with c-form socket...

    Neat Alarm Panel Wiring

Interesting stuff, thanks. But I still say that there will be no voltage difference measured across the alarm terminals with a link in place..

    Neat Alarm Panel Wiring

Surely the alarm terminals are purely a switch (normally closed) and no voltage is present ? In any case with a 0 ohm link accross them there aint much voltage ! But I agree its probably not the best idea.

    Neat Alarm Panel Wiring

They are already shorted as they are "normally closed" and have the staple links accross them ! For example, say zones 5-8 are unused and linked out, you could bring the output of zone 1 and the input to zone 2 tamper into zone 5 terminals, the output of zone 2 and the input of zone 3 tamper...

    Neat Alarm Panel Wiring

Any top tips to make the wiring inside the panel neat (been using Accenta G4 compact) ? I have wired a couple and haven't been satisfied with the outcome in terms of tidiness. Main problem caused by having to use chock blocks to wire tamper circuit in series and to connect the multiple...

    Cooker and Hob

Applying diversity for cooking appliances, you need to allow 10A for the first appliance, + 30% of full load for 2nd appliance, so if you allow 10A for the 6.5K appliance then 30% of the 6.3KW appliance = 8.21A so a total of 18.2A is OK for a 30A supply, providing the cable sizing is adequate...
