How do I join this cable?

It's just a cheap pre-crimped shotgun cable for CCTV. I can obviously join the red to red and yellow to yellow but there is a copper threaded coating like a coaxial cable. Does anyone know if I can properly join these cables? Basically I want to do a cut and shut to get rid of excess length...

Does this nib count as party wall?

Excellent, that makes life a lot easier then!

Does this nib count as party wall?

Thank you both, although I think the answers might conflict? Do you mean this front elevation of wall in the photo? Not quite sure what you mean by the 100mm strip. Thats's good news, Woody, and as I thought. So basically I can sit a lintel on my side of this wall, dig foundations shallower...

Does this nib count as party wall?

There is a single skin party wall running between these two garages, however, does this nib coming out the front on my side count as part of the party wall or not? I believe not but I'm looking for some confirmation! Thank you

    Yale Alarm HSA6400

Put the alarm in 'walk test' mode then open the front door and see which contact name flashes up on the control panel - that will let you know if you've accidentally programmed the sensors incorrectly and therefore set a different one to entry than you thought. As for the fobs, I made the...

    Yale Alarm HSA6400

The alarm should not sound on entry, no. I have a door contact and a PIR both set in entry mode and they give me a 20 second countdown. You can set how long the entry delay is and whether the internal siren beeps at you for this period. Maybe a good idea to check these settings?

    Yale Alarm HSA6400

This is normal. The fob only disarms the system when the alarm is in 'home armed' mode. Presume this is a safety feature so someone can't just steal a fob and disarm your alarm. I have two fobs and never use either, only part of the alarm I regret buying! Are you talking the external...

    Sealing/finishing OSB for a desk

Basically I've used some spare OSB2 to make a desk in my shed/office. Unfinished it's a bit rough on the desktop due to the nature of OSB2. I'm just wondering the best way to seal/finish/clear coat/other the OSB2 so it becomes a nice surface to lean and work on while using my computer?

Can I wire a light circuit like this?

We're going for a dedicated MCB in a spare slot on the house CU with the SWA feed attached. In the Garage CU the sockets will have one breaker and the lights the other breaker. That's as technical as I get, I'm trusting the electrician to get it right...

Can I wire a light circuit like this?

Thanks ericmark and PBoD, very useful posts. These are 100% new circuits being run from a new garage CU in a new shed fed by a new SWA cable fed from the 18 month old CU in the house. I'm paying the electrician to come out anyway as he's running the SWA cable so his testing and certifying...

Can I wire a light circuit like this?

Yep, it's a new light circuit and socket circuit running off a garage CU. The hookup back to the main CU in the house will be done by an electrician at which point he'll test the light and socket circuits I've installed in the shed and then certify them (or tell me they are crap) I've got...

Can I wire a light circuit like this?

Oh yes, I see it now - for some reason I didn't notice this before, must be the extra cable that confused me! The block is even in the switch like mine too. Wired it all up last night so we'll see how it goes once I've had the supply run to the shed...

Can I wire a light circuit like this?

That was quick, thanks both*. Couldn't see any diagrams like this so wasn't sure if I was missing something obvious! Off to the shed I go... * edit: thanks all three!

Can I wire a light circuit like this?

It's for my shed, not sure if this is an acceptable wiring setup so I've put together a quick diagram for you guys to advise. Two gang switch running two lights (one inside, one PIR) and no need to continue the circuit. I've presumed it's OK to Choc block in the switch as per the diagram. No...

    Dongle or whatever

Depends on the TV, best post the model number. There will likely be an Ethernet port to plug a Cat5e/6 cable into it from your router/hub if they're close enough together. If not close then you may be able to plug a wireless adapter in, depends on the TV. Could already be a wireless TV...

Making secure shutters for shed windows

As stupid as it sounds, the shed is a nice looking T&G job from the outside so I don't want to ruin it with external shutters, hence working out internal shutter ideas. I realise someone may smash the glass but that's not too expensive in the whole scheme of things if an internal shutter...

Making secure shutters for shed windows

I'm converting a new shed to an office, insulated and OSB lined which is a work in progress at the moment. I want to make some internal shutters out of OSB as well so scumbags have a harder time breaking in than a single piece of glass. I'm looking for advice on how to secure them, which...
