Weatherproofing/boxing in RSJ from the outside

Thank you tomfe. That frame around the door in the pictures looks very pretty. How do I achieve something like that?

Weatherproofing/boxing in RSJ from the outside

Thank you so much Woody! This is very very helpful. This may be a very naive question, can the cement board be bolted in the web directly?

Weatherproofing/boxing in RSJ from the outside

Thank you for replying woody! We were completely naive and had no experience of builders in Britain. We hired the builder through my builder and made the classic mistake of not having a contract. We are now considering a legal action against the builder. However, reading on the internet I am not...

Weatherproofing/boxing in RSJ from the outside

Somewhere brick slip was mentioned. Would that be easier than cutting bricks? Where to find them?

Here is a picture from inside if it helps. We have fitted 3x2 timber noggins approx 40cm apart(centres).

Weatherproofing/boxing in RSJ from the outside

Thank you so much for replying. No we haven't hired a brick layer yet. We need to know what/how it needs to be done before we get anyone on board as we are still suffering from the previous bad builders' work. RSJ web has a depth of approx 4.5cm. Brick is about 11cm(smaller side). How to fit it...

Weatherproofing/boxing in RSJ from the outside

yes, it spans over the kitchen. Total RSJ span is 4m. For the last one metre it comes in the side space where it is both external and internal.

Weatherproofing/boxing in RSJ from the outside

Thank you for replying. We have the SE papers with calculations. Will that be good enough? ps. SE was bought in by builder. It is extremely difficult to contact builder now.

Weatherproofing/boxing in RSJ from the outside

Hi all, a bad builder in the past have left us with an an exposed RSJ from both sides. We have fitted noggins and will plaster inside with fire lined plasterboard, however, we have no clue what/how to do from outside. We have just removed the board from outside to see if an existing door(blue...

    6m side return extension

This is very helpful. Thanks. I am not sure how the neighbouring houses have done a full width extension. Is there any way I can refer these in my application?

    6m side return extension

Thank you for your reply. I am not sure if I understand this very well. I have attached a picture similar to the original layout. 1) Original Kitchen is 3.5m deep (before 1948). 99% of the houses in our row, including my direct neighbours on both sides, have done a 3/4m extension to the...

    6m side return extension

Hi all, Last year we received LDC for a 3.5m deep side infill. We want to add a rear extension, 2.5m deep, across full width of the house(victorian terraced). This will end up with a 6m long extension along the boundary. Is this allowed under PD? Totally dependent on neighbourhood consultation...

Replace suspended timber subfloor by solid concrete

Thank you for replying. No electric cables but two central heating pipes which is to be be changed to UFH. Getting concrete in should be fairly easy as there is no barrier apart from the front door. Current void depth 60cm. After lowering floor by 20cm void depth will be 40cm. Area to fill is...

Replace suspended timber subfloor by solid concrete

No load bearing walls on the joists/floor area that I need to lower. I will need to lift floorboards to do a picture. They are full of nails at the moment. Do you know the approximate cost of solid concrete flooring? I am trying to decide if I should stick with suspended timber or change to...

Replace suspended timber subfloor by solid concrete

Our ground floor has exposed, painted(ugly) floorboards(100+ years old) with big gaps, zero insulation and zero damp proofing. This makes the room cold and we get damp smell. There are two breathing bricks at the front of the house and one at rear. At some point the rear of the house was...

    Staircase design space saving options

Ah sorry, I thought I posted floor to floor height. Here it is - As I understand I will need to leave 80cm x 2 = 160cm for landing(top + bottom). So I only have 2m x 80cm foot print left. A standard straight flight is approx 280cm. I have a shortfall of 80cm. If I do a combination of drop...
