    Single Story Extension

Thanks for confirming it. He did contact me today to say I would need planning after checking but I'd have thought he would have known that in the first place :D

    Single Story Extension

I have a garaged attached to a 3 bed semi. I am looking to replace the flat roof garage with a pitched tiled roof, knock the kitchen wall out through into the garage and provide a downstairs shower room. Part of the job will be to build the garage and porch out 2 metres from the front of the...

Single Skim Garage Wall - Pitched Roof

I think so! Along the external walls are bricks that come into the garage like a supporting pillar as in the diagram. Can't remember if there are 1 or 2 down the longer wall. How deep would the foundations have to be? Thanks

    Need new lawn mower

Might last you 5 years. Mountfield aren't what they use to be. Made cheaply in Italy (i think) You're better off spending more on a good brand like hayter, rover etc and get one with an alloy deck

Is this double glazing quote reasonable?

Seems expensive. We had 7 windows done 18 months ago for £3300 ish. Very well fitted by a local firm and good quality profile (kommerling) Local firms ranged from £3100-4000 and the big national firms were £5000 after a 50% discount  I am up north though so things might be more...

Single Skim Garage Wall - Pitched Roof

Currently have a single brick garage attached to the house. Want to knock the kitchen through into the garage to make it bigger but the garage has a flat roof that sometimes leaks so we would want to put a proper pitched roof on. The garage is only a single skim brick so I wondered would...

    Query regarding plans

Looking to get a 2 storey side extension on the house which will go through planning. I know I need to get plans drawn up but do I need plans drawn up for building regs showing detail such as how much insulation to use, depth of foundations, plasterboard to use etc Some builders say I do...

Plaster Sealant or Just Watered down paint??

Hello, Just had a new partition put up. Plasterboard then a skim. Not sure If I'll be painting the walls or papering yet but the plasterer said what ever I do I'd need to put a sealant on. He said not to bother with the plaster sealant you can buy in a tin as it's expensive so just thin...

    which Profile?

Rehau is very good. Would also look at kommerling. At the end of the day the vital part of any window is the fitting. A cheap window profile fitted well will out last an expensive one if it's fitted badly

Builder not complying with Building Regs

Just spoke to building control at the council and even though the conservatory didn't need planning etc it should have gone through building regs as work was carried out on the drains. Hmmm will inform them but guess they'll keep quiet

Builder not complying with Building Regs

The actual conservatory was exempt from building regs and planning. It is the work done on the drains that I fear needed to go through building control. If they do nothing can someone turn round and make them get it inspected in the future?

Builder not complying with Building Regs

I've just been to look at a friends conservatory (which is very nice) The builder has had to move some drains so the foundations could be put in but they never went through building control which i'm sure is wrong. I told this to my friend who said they had no idea about building regs etc...

Advice regarding this work please - Pic attached

Getting a new downstairs bathroom and just had the plumbing and electics installed. The pipes for the plumbing and electric cable has been run from behind kitchen units which is fine but from the run from the kitchen units to the bathroom it's just been tacked onto the skirting board. Is...
