    Ceiling light - one GU10 bulb not working

    Your (only) option is to remove the fitting and use a multi-meter to check if there is a complete circuit in the fitting. It is not unknown for one of the contacts in the fitting to fail to make contact with the lamp, in which case you may be able to tweak it with a small screwdriver.

    New ring installed when kitchen fitted. socket in question is spurred off double socket above work top. As stated the engineer from hob suppliers has been on site,and cleared doubts on faulty hob. all sockets on ring work on other appliances, no voltage between earth pin and socket earth. :?

    The incoming live to the switch is your permanent live. Check using a multimeter which of the lives is the feed and you can link from there.

    Yes! As you have been told one of the extra brown wires in room one should be connected to the permanent live to give a permanent live in room 2. As you do not appear to understand basic electrics you should really contact an electrician, it should take him/her a few minutes to put right.

    It sounds very much like the fan is dead, they are not hard to replace with a basic knowledge of electrics. You need to know whether it is a run-on timer or basic fan to get a replacement.

    Connect the blue?(in the supply cable) to the terminals with the blue, the red to the terminals with the brown and the sleeved earth to the separate earth terminal.

    It all depends how long it has been there. Removing it can be a bit of a chore and there will be marks where the roots have penetrated the brick or mortar. If not too bad a good pressure washing can remove most of the marks.

    Do you have to use batteries? Use a 12v transformer, that will work both no trouble. You just need a bit more "Grunt"
