    Painting over tiger lines

The whole front of the breast around the opening was plastered. There were 2 small bubbles of paint, both about the size of a 2p piece so very localised, one to the right of the lines and one on the other side. I've sanded them back and no lines underneath. The plastering was done this time last...

Here are a couple more pictures for you. Not sure what you mean by return cheeks, unless you mean the inside of where the burner sits? Hope these help.

    Painting over tiger lines

Morning all. Last year I had my fireplace opened up and a woodburner put in. The company who did the work also plastered the chimney breast. Not long after painting it, 3/4 lines have shown through the paint. At first I thought it might be salts coming through as I would wipe it, they'd...

    Concrete floor query

I'm after a bit of advice now that I've removed all of my skirting and in the process removed a lot of blown plaster. As I suspected, all of the walls were plastered down to the floors and then some. As per my previous posts, there is a gap between the concrete floor and the walls which was...

    Concrete floor query

Bit of an update as I've spent the last hour or so removing more skirting. I have found more evidence of the floor dpc which is good. Taking off another piece of skirting I found wood between the floor and wall which was rotten. I've removed a good portion and underneath found blue dpc sheet...

    Concrete floor query

Couple of pics, one is the wall between the kitchen, where you can see the brickwork and above it is a decent render. The brick was covered by the brown, fine material. My guess is that the render line, which runs the length of the wall in a level way, was maybe where the old floor was. The...

    Concrete floor query

Thanks for your reply. Answers to your questions are below: I believe there is a dpc on the floor as when I opened up the fireplace in the same room and had to dig it out I remember seeing blue dpc plastic between the floor and the dirt at the bottom of the fireplace, also, in the hallway where...

    Concrete floor query

After a bit of help/advice regarding my existing concrete floor. Will try and pop some pictures up tomorrow if needed but here's the gist of it: Our 1900's terrace had the wooden floor replaced with a concrete floor, due to some recent ongoing diy projects it appears that the concrete floor...

    Damp plaster issue?

Evening all, Had a bit of an on going niggle with one of our interior walls. Over the last 18 months to 2 years there has been a gradual onset of paint flaking off one of the inside walls. The wall In question is the dividing wall between us and our neighbours. Over this time I have been...

Help finding leak into old chimney on a flat roof

Just a bit of an update: Managed to get a ladder so I could get on the roof as I wanted to check it myself, and take photos if needed, before I got in contact with the roofing company. Once I got up there it became clear what the problem was. In the corner where I sprayed the water there was a...

Help finding leak into old chimney on a flat roof

thank you for the replies chaps. I have actually now found where the leak is coming from. When I got home from work earlier i got my garden hose, and hanging out of the bedroom window I concentrated the spray in several areas where I suspected it was getting in. After a bit of trial and error I...

Help finding leak into old chimney on a flat roof

Thank you for your reply and apologies in not replying sooner myself. Just a bit of an update as we've had a fair bit of rain lately. Until today it hasn't leaked as the rain hasn't been too heavy or driving. Tonight though is another matter. It was pouring down earlier with very heavy wind...

Help finding leak into old chimney on a flat roof

Hi all, I'm after some assistance in trying to find the cause of water coming into my kitchen ceiling via an old unused chimney that is on the back of the house. We have a single storey extension which houses the kitchen and bathroom which the old chimney goes into, in the corner of kitchen...

Building regulations for a lean to

i did think about speaking to the agent as they would have surely seen the damp as paint and woodchip wallpaper are coming off the walls. I'm going to ring the owner tomorrow and let them know I plan to go down the dispute route and will inform her estate agents.

Building regulations for a lean to

This is the above where the plywood is and the channel between the houses. Guessing water is also getting in there and running down.

Building regulations for a lean to

It certainly is now as all the plywood is going. It's obviously going to let water in to the other side as well. And now it seems that it's letting water into the brickwork as I'm guessing there are breaks in the bricks or cement.
