    Brexit - a reality check!

"Chronic labour shortages" , How is this even possible ? There are loads of job seekers / on the dole people in the UK . Surely they could have these jobs in the food farming sector and contribute to the system with their much needed taxes !

    Standing seam roof systems ?

I am currently in the process of building a double pitch roof ,double garage 5m x 6.3m and thinking of using standing seam roofing system opposed to standard roof slates (man made stuff) mainly because this stuff looks good and it appears to be easier to install. I am based in South Wales...

Damp and mould in front of house

The outside floor level is the problem , dig a trench which will cut the bridging into your house wall. I would put a layer of gravel in the trench afterwards but since it is summer you can leave it empty for a while to aid the drying process .

Damp and mould in front of house

Whatever you do ,dont listen to those "damp specialists" as it will get worse. Solution is simple ,find the source and eliminate it. Question 1 , What is that plastic pipe going in to the ground ? Question 2 , is the outside floor level higher than inside the house ? If so dig a 10-15cm wide...

    Foundation sealing

Pics would help a lot but i would personally make the gap larger 2-3 inches and dig a trench and drop gravel in there assuming the only water you should have in there is direct rain water and rain water running off the wall. Obviously your patio should be sloped towards a drain and not be...

We had a section of the stone/brick solid wall built old house (walls 50cm thick ) with a damp quarry tiled floor. Upon removing the tiles i found rubble and ash underneath and going deeper there is soil and clay as per photos . The breeze blocked section in the photos used to be a door and...

    Damp issue

if it is only that section of that external wall , it must be something trapping water behind the wall like gullies & down pipes as mentioned already.

Lay Indian sandstone on concrete base/slabs

i believe you would have to seal the concrete slabs with a brush on sealer and sbr the backs of the sandstone before laying them on using a sand & cement mix or an exterior tile/stone adhesive.

    Boarding over solid wall

Thank you It has been drying nice and fast since the outside bridge to wet ground soil has been broken. And i dont want to have this wall bonded or tanked again which just hides problems and causes more damage to brick etc. I am not bothered with insulation either as the house feels fairly...

    Boarding over solid wall

Got a house with solid stone/ brick walls which are around 45cm thick. There were some damp problems related to outside ground levels causing the damp to rise up the walls. i have resolved this by digging a trench around the house so i dont expect any major damp climbing up those walls again...

    Finding Soil pipe

Funny you say that , I have already emailed the council and received a reply from them saying it doesn’t interest them at all that I convert the room in to a bathroom. Are there different rules across different councils around the country ? I am in Wales if that makes a difference.

    Finding Soil pipe

Thanks for all the replies. I have a small problem though. The distance between the 2 manholes is around 20 meters however it is not that straight forward as the 2nd man hole is at the bottom of a set of steps which are around 2 meters lower than the top of the steps. So I am not sure whether...

    Finding Soil pipe

Hi all , I am currently trying to convert our front bedroom into a bathroom upstairs. It’s a semi detached property with side path to the back of the property which is where the first man hole is , this leads to the second man hole at the entrance of the property. Based on the location of the 2...
