    8mm supply to radiators

Thanks for your reply jack. The two rads are near enough to each other but I thought it was advisable to to take the supply for a new rad from the main 22mm pipe. Would your suggestion work like this:- a 22 to 15 reducing tee on both the CH flow and the CH return and then on each 15mm line...

    8mm supply to radiators

I am putting two new rads in my house. The other rads are fed by 8mm microbore so I want to feed the new ones with the same so as to have an even supply throughout the system. My plan for each rad is to put a 22 to 15 reducing tee on both the CH flow and the CH return and then on each 15mm line...

Is draining & refilling bad for the system

Thanks Jack but I'm now confused. If I don't turn off the cold supply to the combi then how will I be able to drain the CH circuit? Won't it just keep refilling from the cold supply so it'll never drain? As I say, I'm quite a novice so probably my understanding is all wrong but perhaps you could...

Is draining & refilling bad for the system

Ok mate, thanks for that. However, what I was thinking of doing was turning off the combi system and the water supply to it, draining down the CH system and then doing my work as quickly as I can. I'll have to use a kettle for a few days to heat any water for washing but I'll be able to manage...

Is draining & refilling bad for the system

Thanks Tony. Bearing in mind that it's not good to keep draining, is it possible to drain the CH system but still have the domestic hot water on. That way I would be able to get all the work done over a period with one draining and refilling. I can manage without CH but it would be difficult...

Is draining & refilling bad for the system

Thanks for that info. So do you mean I should put inhibitor in each time I refill after draining or just the last time ie. when I've done all my jobs?

Is draining & refilling bad for the system

I've got two or three jobs to do on my Combi Boiler CH system:- 1. take out some redundant copper pipework 2. fit 2 new radiators 3. fit TRVs I'm a bit of a novice so I'd like to do these a bit at a time and this will involve draining and refilling the system three or more times. My...

    Questions on plasterboard ceiling

I've just put up a PB ceiling in a small bedroom. I was using "Easydrive BZP Fine Thread Drywall 100mm" screws, which I couldn't get fully into the joists (left about 20mm sticking out) so I've now used 5.0 x 90mm multipurpose ZP screws and they've done the job. I think the problem might have...

Tapered edge plasterboard or square edge?

I've actually already got 50mm of Xtratherm between the joists but I've put a sheet of Xtratherm under the joists as well, to increase the insulation. The problem I've now got is finding a screw that will go into the joists more easily. The ones I've got will go so far and then they won't budge...

Tapered edge plasterboard or square edge?

I'm having a problem getting my screws into the joists. The PB is 9.5mm and there is 50mm Xtratherm insulation above it so I wanted screws that would go about 20mm into the joists - therefore 80mm long was needed. The nearest to this that I could find were "Eastdrive BZP Fine Thread Drywall...

Thanks mate - that's set my mind at rest.

Tapered edge plasterboard or square edge?

I'm putting up plasterboard for a ceiling in a back bedroom which is very small (2 sheets of 2400 x 1200 will be more enough). Someone told me that I should use tapered edge PB but when I went to Jewsons the manager said that if it was going to be skimmed then I should be using square edge so...

Putting up plasterboard for sloping ceiling

Thanks for everyone's contributions. I'm intending to use long screws rather than nails and I'm going to try and make some props, as I'm working alone.

Putting up plasterboard for sloping ceiling

Thanks Beefpot. I'm not sure what you mean by handy boards. I'm using 12.5mm PB with 40mm insulation attached to it. I'll be getting a pro in to do the plastering.

Putting up plasterboard for a sloping ceiling

I've never put up PB before but it's a small (8ft x 6ft) back bedroom so I'm going to try to do it myself. I'd just like to know if there's anything I need to look out for. The roof slopes up from the eaves and I'm putting up PB with a 40mm insulation backing.
