No it is not a smokers house. By looking at other posts its because the room is dark and does not get sunlight. i thought that water based emulsion goes yellow quicker than oil based is that right or wrong. It would be better if I could use the water based gloss because as you say it dries...

Which is the best gloss paint to use. My son's bedroom is quite a dark room - (nothing we can do about that next doors wall taking the light away) and subsequently the gloss discolours very quickly. Is there a gloss paint I can use which will slow down the yellowing?

John D yes we do occasionally light candles but not enough to discolour paint. I do think that it is because of lack of light because the room which goes yellow the quickest is my bathroom which doesn't get much sunlight. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
