    CH Air Problem

Hey, You can get these thermometer strips in places like B&Q for about £2...they look like the thermometers you would often have on the side of an aquarium etc (they are just a sticker).. they are accurate enough to determine if your T-stat is on the blink. Marty.

    CH Air Problem

Not the case Tony! but saying "air drawn in by vent pipe" isnt very helpful....whats the OP supposed to do based on that comment...remove his vent pipe?..its there for a reason, and by design should not be a cause for air in his system..lets wait and see what actually is the root cause. Marty.

    CH Air Problem

The vent is open to air but also under the same head of pressure as the tank is exerting once the system is filled. Just because theres a tank on the feed does not mean there is more pressure from the feed than the vent...so why jump to the conclusion that air is coming in via the vent and not...

Left hot tap on - No hot water and Immersion light now off!

Air lock, You have emptied the immersion probably quicker than the tank in the loft could refil it. Go into the loft find your main tank...which hopefully has refilled by now  There should be two outlets from it..one to your cold water bathroom taps one for the HW cylinder. Get a hose...

    CH Air Problem

How can air be drawn in via vent pipe?..vent pipe should be full of water up to the head heigth of the F&E tank unless the pump is running too fast creating sufficient vacuum/low pressure to empty the vent.

Wiring Pump & boiler with T-stat

Hi DP, Thanks for the reply. The boiler does actually heat the water in the cylinder...but its more of a byproduct whilst heating the house...I just consider it as another rad. i think what you are saying though is exactly what i want hear "let the stat act as a switch for both boiler and...

D_hailsham... Didnt answer 2 of your questions.............. Pump is near the boiler but after the vent to F&E(its in the airing cupboard) My HW cylinder is in the circuit from the pump AND electrically heated which is handy in the summer etc. My boiler is old...no fancy channels for...

Wiring Pump & boiler with T-stat

D Hailsham, The boiler is an ideal classic NF 50. I understand what pump over run is but my boiler is quite basic and does not have any way of telling the pump "ive stopped firing but run for another 30 seconds"..or whatever the required time would be. Once my house is up to temp my boiler...

Wiring Pump & boiler with T-stat

Just to clarify, Its a pumped system, vented, gravity top up via F & E tank. Trvs an all rads. Hot water is heated via a cylinder in airing cupboard(both electrically and by heat exchange when the heating is on ) It is not a combi boiler...there are no zones...nothing fancy, no 3 way valves...

Wiring Pump & boiler with T-stat

Fair enough... This is a basic boiler, vented system. When should the pump run??...all the time i would like my house heated or only when the boiler is firing?....thats my question essentially. It may be designed wrong but i intend to put it right!! Cheers, MArty.
