Wiring Pump & boiler with T-stat

If your boiler does NOT heat water in the cylinder, then let the new thermostat act a switch to run boiler and pump.

Hi DP,
Thanks for the reply.
The boiler does actually heat the water in the cylinder...but its more of a byproduct whilst heating the house...I just consider it as another rad.
i think what you are saying though is exactly what i want hear "let the stat act as a switch for both boiler and pump"

I should probably look into putting some kind of a trv onto the boiler though..is there such a thing?
Cheers,
Marty.

There are thermostatic valve available to go in-line to the cylinder, but they are not very accurate or reliable. A much better solution is to insert convert the system to a Y- or S plan, as in my earlier post. You then have full control over the temperature of the water and the times when the water is being heated.

From what you have said, I assume that you use the immersion heater to heat the hot-water in the summer. As you know, electricity is considerably more expensive than gas - they have to burn gas to produce the electricity - so you would make a saving if you used the boiler to heat your hot water in the summer. You would not be able to do this if you just put a thermostatic valve in the HW circuit; you need a Y or S plan.

For info: A Drayton Cyltrol (TRV) costs about £70. A Honeywell Mid-position valve and cylinder thermostat will cost about £60.

Cheers D_Hailsham,
What you said there sounds exactly what i need to do.
I plan to replace the Hot water cylinder next year to a bigger one as it doesnt appear to fill the bath!!
So ill change to one of those Y or S plans then....thanks a mill much appreciated.
Marty.
