Here's a good electric shower wiring question

I'm replacing an electric shower for a customer and as usual my quote said I would only connect it if the wiring was suitable. The old shower was 8.5kw and had been working well for years (but the on/off switch was faulty so it had to be replaced). When I come to do the job I find the...

    Leaking bath waste pipe

Not the best of descriptions but it sounds like the overflow pipe. If it is kind of wrinkled and black then I'm on the right track. Generally they are nasty cheap affairs but you could probably do worse than easing it of the connection and putting plenty of silicone sealant around it before...

    Toilet pipe

More than likely that if it is about 3/4 inch or 22mm then it is an overflow. Usually not required on newer siphons.

    Torbeck valve trouble

Look at the instructions and you should find a way to flush the pipework with the valve body in place - maybe the valve isn't as it should be. The valve should stop the water when you lift the arm. you will hear a knock as the valve closes.(you might not with the flow restrictor in place...

    Cistern not filling

I suspect you have left a pressure reducing component in the feed to the toilet. It slows the water down and therefore there is not enough flow to start the pump.

    Very Slow Float Valve

if you have read the instructions and your water pressure is within limits I'd throw it away and buy a torbeck valve. They come in two bottom entry sizes - so make sure you get the right one. And flush the pipework before fitting

Soil Pipe Design with Air Admittance Valve

Rob, your diagram seems fine. The AAV must be above the cistern height and the run from the WC to the vertcal stack musnt be more than 6m for a 4" pipe. Ensure the fall is correct and that the T to the WC is swept toward the down pipe

    Part P

No, the boiler is elsewhere. I have refurbed the bathroom and when it comes to testing the electrical installation I note there is no main bonding to the incoming water main. Therefore it will fail an inspection but nothing to do with my work! What would an inspector say if he were to come...

    Part P

I'm currently preparing for an inspection as part of my Part P registration and have a question. The installation I'm working on as part of a bathroom refurb does not have its main water supply pipe bonded to the main earth terminal. The gas is. The bathroom will have a heated floor and new...

    Bathroom Shaver/Light

I'm installing a bathroom light which incorporates a shaver socket - its double insulated, class 2. I'd like to feed it from a ring which just happens to be under the floor in the right area. Can I do this using a FCU? The FCU can be fitted in or under a bathroom cupboard. Does the FCU need to...
