    Skirting boards...

We're just about to start redecorating and tidying our living room/diner in out 1950's wimpey house. The PO has nailgunned skirting along one wall that's completely the wrong level, height, and profile compared to the rest of it, so we're planning on removing that, as to be frank it looks damn...

    leaky close coupled toilet

Yes, donut. Ours was leaking from that..when I got a plumber in to sort it, we realised the PO who fitted it all had somehow messed the installation up. Either he set the pan in the concrete accidentally, or he did the plumbing before fitting the cistern, but he'd canted the tank over to the...

    Argh, pacific drop valve...

OK. Fiddled with the sliders - all is now fine...bar the fact that twice now I've flushed, it's dumped the cistern water fine, and then stuck open for 5 seconds or so as the cistern fills before it clunks as the valve shuts down and the flush stops. Guessing I may need to check the cable run...

    Argh, pacific drop valve...

Got it sorted now.. :) Colleague of the missus has a friend who is a plumbing guy. Now minus a Pacific, and refitted with a Fluidmaster dual flush. SO much nicer. The FM valve seems to dump a hell of a lot of water in comparison..is that normal? Works fine, but seems hellishly powerful...

    Argh, pacific drop valve...

AARGH! I got the unit from Lunns, complete with spare cartridge. Unclipped the old, clipped in the new. Bugger still leaks into the bowl continually. Old unit was scaled up a bit, but in good shape once cleaned..seals were fine. Seat/basket looks fine too. The water level in the...

    Argh, pacific drop valve...

Spares are unavailable for it..Lunns is the only apparent place that now stock anything to do with it...

    Argh, pacific drop valve...

Aye, the unit in it now is a Pacific, looks just like that. And yes, it continually runs into the bowl, enough to empty the tank in about an hour with the main off, or prompt the fill valve to trigger every 5-6 minutes to top up. Total PITA. The loo was apart less than 2 months ago to...

    Argh, pacific drop valve...

Anyone here in Telford?!?! I've bought a Screwfix CC kit, and a 1.5/2in flush valve (Fluidmaster), and a 2in flapper (also fluidmaster), to replace the currently knackered drop valve in my loo (pacific single flush). No idea which one will be needed, so got both. I'm getting...

Advise me..New Fluidmaster fill valve, letting by..

Yep, did that. Decided last night to shut down the isolator when bathing daughter..could see the pan rippling very slightly. Came back 2 hours later, turned the water back on...filled for around 6-7 seconds and shut off again. Shortly (20 minutes tops) after I could hear it whistling very...

Advise me..New Fluidmaster fill valve, letting by..

Yet more woes with my close-coupled loo...it had been dripping annoyingly for a month or 2, so at the weekend I shut off the isolator, drained the cistern and mopped the water out, then stripped the original bottom-fill ballvalve. All looked OK (if old and scaly), so cleaned it all up and...

Cold taps run hot if rising main off...?

Actually, I'm darn sure the cold taps on the bath/basin/cold feed to the loo aren't tanked...the pressure in them compared to the hot taps is extremely noticeable. If it sheds any light at all, i've been reading about cross-feeds in mixer situations, and we DO have a mixer..a monoblock...

Cold taps run hot if rising main off...?

I had a plumber here a few weeks ago, sorting out a leaking close-coupled loo. Turns out numpty PO (owned a building company apparently, god help clients if what we see here is anything to go on) did the piping, then put the loo pan in place, THEN realised the tank didn't quite line up with the...

    Astra radio

Is it a MK4 Astra? If so, probably yes. I ran across it in my manual at the weekend. I'll have a look later.

Vauxhall Astra 1.6 Extremely High Temperature. Help Needed!

I had mine done the other week for an almighty £80. That included replacing the aux belt, and fitting a "custom" stat - I bought a new one, cut the middle out of it and had them put that in. Then I put a Renault one in the top hose. Lets see THAT fail again. Bloody stupid place to put a...

Lawn Help - I've been ripped off!

Worry not - we did a spur of the moment turf of our back garden, using end of season turf from Homebase that took 3 trips to get home. Never done it before. Barrows and barrows of golden gravel out, liner up, turf rolled in and laid out, cut around our stepping stones and so on. Looked like...

VAUXHALL ASTRA 1.6 KEEPS BREAKING DOWN - HELP!!!

Right. When it cuts out, does it cut out dead, suddenly? My Auto was doing this, and it was a failing output driver in the ECU, which when warm was cutting the power to the fuel pump. Laptop was reading various fault codes, but nothing that would relate. Multimeter got the thing...

    Re-Concreting around manhole cover.

Possibly the wrong word there... At the end (almost) of my drive, I have a metal drain/manhole cover..the drive is chipping originally, 2 rows of slabs for tyre grip, and then this cover, concreted in on all 4 sides by 6 inches of concrete. Now, over the years and previous owners, this has...

    Dripping close-coupled loo...

Ah, in fact the missus has just e-mailled me to tell me that the shower "didn't work" this AM...freezing or scalding, and the pressure at the bathroom basin cold tap is "cr@p"..I have a feeling the pressure may actually be lower than it was, and the initial "surge" when a tap is turned on is...

    Dripping close-coupled loo...

Well, that was fun! Stopcock off, downstairs cold tap on to drain it. Unhitch the inlet on the loo, undo the 2 wingnuts (Plumber was amazed that they came off quite easily), 2 screws out the back..and yes, the donut was kaput, and the bracket underneath was very rusted. So he put a new...

    Dripping close-coupled loo...

AH! :) The water is nowhere near the level it would need to be at in that case to overflow, even after dripping all night long. Why am I having a sinking feeling it's that flush valve that's started to leak... Mind you, it was fitted in '97 according to paperwork I've found..I suppose 15...
