    Does anybody recognise this pattern?

I did a Google search for 'broken leather' and it led me straight to the Artex web site and you are correct, this pattern is the one called broken leather. Also, the method you described is exactly as they describe it. 10 out of 10! Thanks again for an accurate steer.

    Does anybody recognise this pattern?

Hi, I have just removed an internal wall because I needed to move it slightly. I will need to patch the ceiling where the wall has been taken away from and attempt (in my inexpert way) to get the same patterning on the ceiling in that place. I have added a picture, below, of the pattern on...

Sealing a shower against leaks to the room below

Hi, I have a question about fitting and sealing a new shower. At present we have a shower upstairs in our en-suite bathroom and as far as I can see there has been a strong tendency for water to seep through the tiles and through the tongue and groove floor, through to the ceiling of the...

    Security light question

Hi all, Is it permissible to spur a 250W security light off a socket on the upstairs ring main? If not, why? Is it simply because of the higher current rating of the ring main versus the lower rating of the lighting circuit? Thanks. Paul

    Preparing walls

Thanks. Assuming I give the wall a good scrape, is there anything that I can then coat the wall with prior to putting the emulsion on? Paul

    Preparing walls

Hi, I have been asked to paint some walls in my auntie's house. The previous owner was possibly the worst DIY'er on the planet. Some of his work has to be seen to be believed. He moved out years ago and we are still uncovering little gems here and there. Anyway, earlier attempts...

Interior stain or paint for a log cabin?

Hi, Can anybody help with this one, please? I have just built (from a kit) a log cabin in my garden. The wood is pine, or similar. I have treated and varnished the exterior, but do not particularly want a natural wood finish inside, I would prefer something close to a white paint (hint...

    Consumer Unit question

Hi, I want to take a cable off to my garden shed from my consumer unit in the garage. The problem is that the consumer unit is an old model and I have had to buy a retrofit kit from MK Electric so that I can fit an MCB type that is currently available. Fitting the retrofit kit means that I...

    A question about trunking

Thanks chaps, wonderful advice again. Richard Burbridge, if I remember rightly, do stairs and the like, so wooden trunking might well be up their street. I had previously tried a general search for wooden trunking on google and didn't turn up much, but now I shall go and find their web site.

    A question about trunking

Hi, I posted a question earlier about connecting SWA using a gland and now I have another question on a related issue. I have just erected a largish log cabin in my garden and since it's made of pine (or some other Scandinavian wood) which is thick enough not to need lining inside, I am...

    Connecting SWA into a gland

Thanks for the diagrams. looking at the cable colours in the diagram reminds me of yet another question. I have now taken a piece of the SWA and experimented with connecting it to the gland. I notice that the colours of the 3-cores are brown, black and grey. Can you tell me what the correct...
