    Hep20 or something else?

Yup, that's exactly why and even then that may not have been enough if it was an ascending type spray bidet. Cat5 backflow protection needs a cistern with an air gap and a weir overflow, which a standard cold water cistern wouldn't have had.

Soldering copper next to a fitting

If it's only 120mm away then it's touch and go. The rag would need to be soaking wet and that may protect the plastic but in turn it may stop the fitting from getting hot enough for the solder to take properly. I'd remove the whole thing before soldering if possible.

Minium room temperature, is there a limit?

With regards to what? Temps are usually taken at height so any temp measured below 5degC can start to drop into the frost zone @ ground level, if it's like that for an extended period of time. Hence the reason for frost stats/boiler stats/TRV's etc are usually set to enable if the temp drops...

    Hep20 or something else?

As suggested, it is against UK regulations to supply an ablution device (bum gun) from the cold mains supply in the UK. This is due to the risk of contamination of the/your mains drinking water by bacteria that will undoubtedly contaminate the end of the gun, simply by using it. Please don't...

    Shower trap strange goings-on

Is the shower on the same waste run as another fixture that is used regularly? if so, there could be back pressure that is blowing the seal out of the trap. What is the depth of seal in the trap for the linear drain?

    110mm stack rubber seal

As suggested, these seals usually change with age and become hard/brittle or shrink and once undone, experience has shown that they rarely seem to seal properly again. To what degree they have degraded though would be down to feel. In other words, with a little silicone grease applied, how...

    Radiator Sludge

Bit surprised though, given the fact that sorting out and system sludge/restrictions would have nothing to do with Gas Safe or anyone else TBH. There should be confidence in the sludge diagnosis from the independent and TBH it should be relatively easy to sort out even with a mains flush, even...

Can my valiant ecotec run just a single radiator?

Any boiler can run just one rad but yes it will lead to short cycling and be highly inefficient.

    Converting push fit to glued?

Yes - both pushfit and SW plastic waste pipe can be used with universal compression waste fittings. Glu'able pipe, i.e. solvent weld is 43mm OD not 40mm as is pushfit but both are generally known as 40mm or 1.5"

    Converting push fit to glued?

For me it's a few things. Most of which I have experienced. Solvent weld is a bit like soldering copper, once it's glued properly then it can be considered part of the pipe and from a secure and low leak risk point of view, there isn't a better approach. Therefore there should be no need for a...

    Converting push fit to glued?

Unfortunately, I think the problem here is that they could be bathroom fitters? Whilst not all are the same and your chaps may be good workers, I find that a lot of them are a jack of all and unfortunately a master of none and I find myself repairing a lot of their work when it ultimately fails...

Fall on horizontal shower waste to boss strap

If you can avoid it, try not using the rubber adapters. Over the longer term they can become troublesome as they age harden. If at all possible I would recommend that you either use the correct pushfit or ideally a solvent weld adapter.

Lagging for an external condensate pipe

Yes and if it's fitted properly, without cutting it down its length and with a good couple of coats of good quality exterior paint, that will then make it waterproof and UV resistant, seen bitumen paint used before now too. As the old saying goes though, do it properly and do it once. As...

Lagging for an external condensate pipe

Some boilers have trickle overflow condensate traps, some have syphon traps, the former allows a constant discharge, the latter discharges once the trap fills up enough, both types are still commonly used, boiler MANU dependent. During extended periods of sub zero temps and typically If a...

How to make room to fit a rat flap?

Are you sure it's a 6" clay and not a 4"? Is there no other full chamber that you have access to the open end? If not then you would need to cut that access section out, fit the valve in the upstream end and then remake with plastic and/or fernco's. The covers never seem to last, only ever...

    Column radiator microbore

Usually not to the point whereby the rad won't flow, some of the tubular designer rads have the tube slightly above the top and bottom horizontals and they can sometimes catch a little air right at the top but that would usually dissipate over time. The difficulty is with gravity fed open vent...

Two radiators on one 10mm pipe

Probably the reason your system is working OK is that it's all 8/10mm and there are only 7 rads. 10mm pipe can supply anything up to ~ 2.5Kw2 where the system is compact, relatively well balanced, pump is strong, the overall run sizes aren't that large. The trouble starts, with microbore...

Fitting a new bath to pre-tiled walls...advice needed please

Difficult fitting a bath to a wall that already tiled. The proper fitting of a bath would be, level batons on the wall, especially if it's acrylic, seal the bath to the batons and the wall and seal all around the top edge, fill bath a leave overnight then tile down to the bath and then seal...

Best way to secure this pipe?

Oh dear, sorry but he's not a proper plumber IMO. Any self respecting, trained plumber that had access like that and a stop tap at the bottom, if it works properly, could have easily fitted a nice shiny piece of copper, bent properly to the wall if needed, clipped the pipe where it needed to be...
