    Levelling a new toilet bowl

I'm fitting a new close-coupled toilet on a newly tiled floor. The floor is level but the bowl does not sit level. Do I just use shims or should I use a bed of 'Plumber's mate' or some such putty? Also, much more worrying, the top of the cistern is about 15mm away from the wall when coupled...

Removal of parquet adhesive (not bitumen) from blocks

I've just bought some reclaimed oak block flooring and the blocks look like they had been put down with some kind of adhesive that definitely isn't bitumen - it's very hard & light -coloured. I assume this is proper parquet adhesive. Is there any way other than elbow grease to get this stuff...

concrete floor, a DPM and Parquet blocks...

I want to lay parquet flooring on a screeded concrete floor but I don't know if there is a DPM installed. Is there any way to tell or should I use some sort of sealant to paint over it first? There is no evidence of any dampness anywhere.

How do I use epoxy resin to secure 10mm studs in my wall?

What sort of plugs are these jbonding? The basin weighs around 5kg and the studs are 12mm diameter and 150mm long - I'm not familiar with any plugs which can handle this. Thanks for all your interest though

How do I use epoxy resin to secure 10mm studs in my wall?

It is brick, plaster, thin ceramic tile, plasterboard, skim to plasterboard then my 12mm thick limestone tile on 5mm adhesive bed. There might be a gap where the ceramic tile has broken up and dropped behind the plasterboard. The total depth from surface to bottom of hole is 140mm of which I...

How do I use epoxy resin to secure 10mm studs in my wall?

I'm hanging a new hand basin on my newly tiled bathroom wall. I tried to use a type of 'rawlbolt' in which a sleeve is expanded using a tapered end of the stud. The studs just pulled out of the wall when I tried to tighten up the basin.Unfortunately, my walls are a combination of plasterboard...

Connecting chrome tube to Yorkshire fittings

Can you connect chromed copper tube direct to yorkshire (presoldered) fittings or would you remove the chrome with wire wool or the like?

Can I convert microbore to 15mm?

I'm fitting a new radiator in my bathroom. The existing feed is 15mm reduced to 10mm for a short length to the radiator. Can I fit 15mm pipe instead of 10mm without affecting the system flows (altho' I realise I'll have to gag the flow to prevent starving the other radiators)? Alternatively, do...

Positioning of walk-in Aquarius shower tray

I've tiled all but the bottom row of a wall against which the shower tray will sit. The instructions for the tray recommend tiling down to the radius of the top edge & sealing with sealant. However, the upright support bracket for the curved glass panel is shown fitted flush against the tiles...

Cutting irregular size holes in wood

How can I cut a 40mm and 30mm hole in a piece of wood without an exact-size hole cutter? The hole cutters I have are 32mm, 38mm and 45mm. I only need to cut one of each so I don't particularly want to buy new cutters!

Can you polish the edge of limestone tile?

I've just spent 10 mins rubbing down the edge of one tile with wet&dry - the result is really good. Will the chemical I use for sealing the walls & floor give the tile edge a 'wet-look'? If so the problem solved :)

Can you polish the edge of limestone tile?

Hi JohnD Have built a 4" high frame and covered it with marine ply. The shower tray will sit on this but it leaves the frame exposed - make sense? However, there are no 'factory cut' edges - their all the same as the tiles have been cut from a block.

Can you polish the edge of limestone tile?

I want to edge a new wooden shower cubicle plinth with the same tiles as I've put on the walls & floor. Is it possible to polish (or at least make it presentable) the cut edge of the tile? I know I could use plastic trim but I think using the same tiles would look more professional. The tiles...

Thanks for that Darren I'll have a look at the seal strips but will probably go with the 2 beads of silicon

Can anyone recommend a really good sanitary silicon?

Can anyone recommend a really good sanitary silicon which will definitely not go mouldy or stain?

Easter tiling woes - Tiling to a shower tray

Will do that. Do you recommend using a shower tray sealing strip or just silicon?

    Blown external facing bricks?

The bricks are above the dpc but there are flags around the perimeter of the house so there might be some splashing but my roof overhangs (dormabung)& keeps most of it off. By the way, all the garden walls have been made from the same brick and are completely shot. These are beyond repair.

Hi DarrenSL Do you mean silicon to the tray to the plasterwork first?
