That lintel seems to have a dangerously short bearing of about 80mm when it should be 150mm. Also; is it a single story, garage conversion, flat roof?

What was the final price? Slate tiles cost about £3 each so 15 would be £60 for the lot. Then £300 for labour, which is £75 per hour per man. That's more than my dentist earns!

Have you priced up all the materials? Has the builder said how many men and how many days it will take? Put the two together and that will indicate the profit margin.

Put simply could I cut slate to say 12 x 20 x 300 from 12 x 300 x 300 squares. Hope that makes sense.

Hello DIYers, I planning a to tile my hearth with riven slate tiles. I'm not too sure how high to make the hearth. The face tiles will probably need to be 30mm x 300mm. I need to know how thin slate tiles can be cut with an angle grinder. Thanks.

I'll soon be opening up my fireplace for a stove to go in. Will a 88mm single leaf steel lintel will be OK. Or should I use a concrete lintel. The lintel will be at least 300mm above the stove.

In the utility room the washing machine, boiler waste water and sink share a 40mm pipe. There's another separate 40mm pipe which has a dish washer and sink on it. The two 40mm pipes meet each other outside on the gulley grid. Thanks for you quick responses.
