    Minimum alcohol pricing in Scotland....

Aye no doubt! I've recently found a job closer to home(total career change!!) and it's working in a distillery making whisky! The boss says that 80% of the cost of our 12yr old single malt is purely duty to the government. Whisky is hammered duty-wise compared to cider and wine too....

    Minimum alcohol pricing in Scotland....

http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2012/may/14/minimum-alcohol-price-scotland-50p?newsfeed=true What a load of f***ing b*ll**** sold as a "deterrent" to us feckless Jocks from drinking ourselves to death... 1/ it won't stop any alcoholics from drinking themselves to death. 2/ it'll save...

    Closeboard/palisade fencing gap advice needed?

Hi, We have a shared boundary with neighbours that is about 70m long. Our neighbours put up a 1.8m palisade fence down 20m of this to create a "compound" to the rear of their place,(150x19mm boards) but left the spacings at 47mm. The fence has no effective visual or noise screening(they have...

Max height for a close board fence in Scotland?

Tried googling but getting nowhere on this! Anyone know what this maximum height is? Thought about contacting local council but as it's in a National Park they have differing rules anyway-ie outbuildings/sheds/greenhouses etc? The fence is a boundary between us and our neighbours, they already...

    Building a Red Brick Archway

A 215mm sq pillar 1.8m high...and then a day later having not only gravity but lateral forces to deal with. Apart from the mortar probably needing longer to set properly the footprint of the pillar is tiny for the height. As others have suggested some sloping buttressing would be better if done...

Whaddaya make of this "pro" effort?

I'll second that Owain. like a third world effort...I got a bit of flak on here for installing a new CU and shower, doing all the plumbing too. ok i couldn't test it but the workmanship compared to this is exemplary. And its all fine still alive!! This work is supposedly done by a pro....jaw...

Whaddaya make of this "pro" effort?

But surely that's what would happen in a power cut? Or is this in case the thermostat goes faulty when it goes over say 90c it will open the valve? I seriously don't think it's that complicated. Anyway- just been up and connected the "spare" blue/N wire to a cluster of quite clearly blue/N. I...

Whaddaya make of this "pro" effort?

Hi Matt- the stat is the cylinder one on the side of the thermal store. As I say the cable is grey/black/earth/live. I am tempted to strip the end of the blue, and connect it to a block that is clearly blue only. At the moment because there's no power to it I've shut both valves on the hot/cold...

Whaddaya make of this "pro" effort?

Yeah, that's a good point....Why is it spliced to the grey from the stat? Must be a reason?(though it could very well be like that through sheer incompetence though knowing the company involved) It's supposed to be closed when power is on, then if power fails it opens, but why that should...

Honeywell Electric Thermostat- need advice..picture included

God no Matt1e, sorry I never meant any offence mate, I'll post it up just thought as it had hit the junction box it was maybe best to get a sparks advice. Apologies, Here's the pic...the neutral is connected to nothing and the live is spliced to the grey of the thermostat cable..it's earthed btw

Whaddaya make of this "pro" effort?

Ok....wee bit of background on this to make sense of it. We have a multifuel stove, in event of power failure they installed a thermosyphon/gravity radiator which is controlled electrically by a valve (Honeywell V4043B "Normally Open"). Power fails, valve opens(current keeps it closed), water...

Honeywell Electric Thermostat- need advice..picture included

Looks like it's not a plumbing issue...logic dictates that if it is letting water through it is either defective or not getting any power...a belt and braces approach of turning off the mains, disconnecting the valve cable in the choc box and connecting a table lamp has shown there's no...

Honeywell Electric Thermostat- need advice..picture included

Ta for the replies lads. So it isn't the wrong one....I now cannot understand why this radiator has any heat in it at the moment, and more bizarrely why the cold side feed to it is the pipe that is hottest. Went round to a neighbours whose radiator does work and his(facing it) right inlet is...

Honeywell Electric Thermostat- need advice..picture included

Hi Folks, Can any of you please advise me whether this thermostat should be open or closed under electrical load? (I'm sure it's open by pipe temp and what's on the top of it with the A>B Open bit...?) Problem is this is attached to retrofitted plumbing to a thermosyphon/gravity radiator...

Black discs on side of house - Help/ advice please

Yeah there to stop the walls spreading. Pretty common in old buildings especially ones that have none existent or poor foundations, and ones whose usage may have changed over time increasing loads in the upper parts of the buildings(imagine a warehouse/mill/industrial building converted adding...

Circular concrete patio- anyone laid one?

The centre is already marked with a pole in the ground from which I set the radius of the wall at 2.4m(thin rope trammel). The ground is a pain to peg being gravel/stony/bouldery but suppose even if it wasn't bang on I could pack out any spaces between the pegs and formwork with wedges etc. I'd...

Circular concrete patio- anyone laid one?

Good idea catlad- six lengths of ply 100mm high by 2.31m stitched together would give the circumference. then it would just be pegging the outside at regular intervals to keep it from deforming then levelling it up... :D
