    Expansion Vessels

Sorry to be pedantic, but an E.V. has a Schraeder valve, not a Schroeder valve. Just a wee addition to a thouroughly entertaining post. :D

Range Powermax 155x going to lockout

Of course there are others! Didnt you know that BG are murdering scum who want to destroy the entire world? At least thats the impression I get from some of the posters on here. . . Rant over.

Fernox or Sentinel to clean my system

Either chemical will do the trick. I usually use sentinel, but that's because I get it cheap :D . If its just the heads which have snapped, you could replace them without draining the system.

    GAS PTFE

Loctite 55- A giant leap forward for mankind! Beats lumps out of hemp and boss white. A big advantage of this stuff is that you can bring screwed fittings back almost a full turn and it still wont leak. Magic. :D

My gas pipe is touching the return pipe for CH

Natural gas ignites at 704 degrees c, butane at 500 and commercial propane at 530 deg c. So all in all I wouldn't worry too much about the flow pipe touching the gas pipe. ]

    Any boiler experts out there?....Help!

A sooted up heat exchanger will cause pilot outage on this model of highflow. Sooting up is usually down to lack of ventilation, poor flueing and occationally incorrect burner pressure. All of which are easily repaired by a competent RGI. Often these boilers were fitted with no clearance between...

Hot water from one tap only!?!

Sound like the hot water diaphragm is on its last legs, possibly a small split, and the increased flow is required to make the microswitch. Jaguar parts are sometimes a wee bit hard to get a hold of, but the diaphragm on this boiler is the same as that on a vokera maxin.

    Ideal Elan 2 - Boiler Won't Fire

If your multimeter reads 1 ohm, then you have continuity. OL or mega ohms would indicate no continuity. Off of the top of my head, I think that this model of boiler has a pilot interrupter. Try to locate the overheat stat ( top right hand side I think) and check it for continuity. Sorry Im a bit...

Vaillant 837 Ecotec. Gas Inlet Pressure Problems

If the working pressure at the meter is 22mb, and the inlet pressure at the appliance is 18mb there is a problem with the installation pipework. The manufacturer may accept a lower inlet pressure, but our regs dont. There should be no more than a 1mb drop between the meter and appliance when in...

    ACS Qualified with CCN HTR1 CKR1 CEN1

I joined BG as a trainee when I was 24. I wasn't the oldest in the group either. As Agile says, if you stick in and listen to the training officers the engineering academy is a fantastic place. Just dont get turned to the dark side when you go out on the patch. By that I mean unneccesary sales...

    Fitting extra expansion vessel

Also if the vessel is fitted on the return it is exposed to slightly lower temperature and this will marginally increase the life of the membrane. In theory.

Help! One rad is cold on a new system install

If my apprentice left a job like that, I would tan his a**e! If a new boiler has been fitted I would say that a thorough flush should have been carried out.

Drinking water from hot water header tank

I frequently come across tank fed cold water in older property. Having had the job of pulling dead pigeons from the tank (a few years ago as an apprentice!) I certainly would think twice about drinking the water. However, if a byelaw 30 kit has been fitted there should be no danger. The kit...

    baseboard heater screaming!!!

Its a skirting board heater. My cousin in Toronto has one. Its a single pipe with convector fins inside a low profile box. You can get warm air ones too, but they are a total bu**er to balance!

    Radiator won't go cold

If the rest of the rads are turning off, you may well find that the two you are referring to have passing thermostatic valves. If that is the case you may have to replace the valve washers or the valves themselves.

    HEADER TANK ON COMBI.........!!!!!!!!!

Regardless of the size of tank, the pressure into the system is dependant on the height of the tank i.e. the head of water. Auto fill systems are good, but if there is a leak and you are constantly adding fresh water to the system there will be hell to pay in terms of corrosion. Sorry mate, but...

    HEADER TANK ON COMBI.........!!!!!!!!!

There is a water pressure sensor on the syntesi. I f the pressure falls below approx 0.5bar, the boiler wont work. If the old tank is only 2m above the boiler you wont get sufficient pressure (0.2bar). Unfortunately, if leaksealer hasn't worked, you'll have to start the search for the leak the...

    Under floor heating

For a mixed system, the problem of differing temperature requirements can be overcome with a blending kit. They can be quite pricey though.

    Disconnect back boiler

The holes would have been drilled to prevent a pressure build up in the back boiler once it was capped off. We used to do this to old coal fired boilers all the time, if the fire was still to be used.
