    Help with RJ11 socket

We have a RJ11 socket in the sitting room behind the TV. It has never worked as far as I know but the phone line did go into the house and was t-ed there when we bought the house when there was still a NTLworld. The socket is System45 made by AVE (Italian company) like a lot of our switches. See...

Expansion vessels on hot water cylinder. Are they designed to fail?

The expansion vessels you mention are for potable and not for potable use. The leaking one was designed and bought for potable, i.e. hot water systems. We also have one fitted to the CH system and that has not caused any problems .... yet.

    Siting a bathroom extractor

Our en-suite is like this and I put a humidistat extractor fan above the shower as that is where the steam is and the other side we have a good size tilt and turn window for ventilation. Depending on your ceeling joists direction you might be able to easily push a hose through.

The leaking Varem could only be disassembled with a hacksaw.

Expansion vessels on hot water cylinder. Are they designed to fail?

Thanks for the comments. The old vessel was a Varem and the new one is a Refix. The Varem was certified to 8bar, while the Refix is certified to 10bar. They are charged to 3bar. One of our neighbours, who is a plumber for water and gas who modified our CH system to a pressurized one but did not...

    Window Seal Advice

Use expansion foam and have a hand spray bottle with water ready. If / When foam expands too far or drips onto anything spray the water onto the foam. It will slow the expansion and start to seal the surface by "cooling" the foam. Once cured just cut the excess to size.

    Garage door problem

Are you able to get in through a door or even window? Then put lots of WD40 on ALL moving parts. If from the outside try and squirt WD40 into the lock. We had a stuck handle and it was just corrosion and the WD40 did the trick. If this does not help it is the drill you mentioned.

Expansion vessels on hot water cylinder. Are they designed to fail?

We have had a copper hot water cylinder with an expansion vessel fitted around 2003. We had a leak on the second expansion vessel in this time. While the first one just vented water from the air inlet valve at the top and was not too much of a problem until I got a new one, this "new" one had...

    Location of cistern

Your physical water pressure is the same no matter how many bends you have as long as there are no restrictions. We have 2 concealed cisterns on a DAL and that works very well.

    Coving

It is a larger "patch up" job. I was hoping that it came off the ceiling like some other coving in the house that started to come off and we carefully got it off in one piece. Not this one.

    Coving

Thank you cwhaley, My google search was less specific and got me too many results, but not yours. I have emailed them and was planning to go to some local places, but I have never shopped for coving.

Can anyone tell me whether this type of coving still exists and what it is called or where I can get it? I need to patch it up. The measurements are in the attached drawing.

    Winter tyres

I was really anoid when BBC and Sky News kept asking for people with 4x4 cars to help people and drive med. staff to work. They should have instead asked for winter tyre equipped cars and maybe they should even had some programs showing people the difference, so they can help themselves and stop...

    Winter tyres

I have the Superb 4x4 on winter tyres. It was great. Instead of joining the long and hardly moving treck of sh.t scared summer tyre drivers on the main roads I took the country side roads home. 30 min for 10 miles on 15 to 30 cm of snow and some snow drifts and mostly empty roads. You have...
