Many thanks for your respons. I agree with you some will not work without a load on the output side. I wanted to know whether the resistence can be measured to show whether the transformer is working or not. If yes, I would really appereciate if you could help further. Thank you

Why do you want to test tthe transformer? Thanks for your answer, but why do you reckon i might be testing a transformer for? Because normally everyone checks the transformer to ensure whether it is working or not.

Thanks for your help, you were right about the output arrangement. one of the SWAs has gone to the other boxes, infact there is 4 of these boxes in this garden with each coil supporting three lights, and these have been working for over 6 years, it's just this one coil that keeps failing. right...

Thanks for your respons. You are right, I don't have access to the fuse board right now, but i have the fuse with me, and i have attached it's pictures just in case. you might be able to see this, on the fuse there is a 30A limit, would you agree and suggest that i just use this and take it out...
