Just HOW do I get a quote for a cantilever carport ?

I have no idea. That is why I want to have it installed by a company and not a DIY job. I would want them to take full responsibility for the strength of the structure after a comprehensive survey. Cheers Brian.

Just HOW do I get a quote for a cantilever carport ?

Thanks everyone for the replies, some interesting thoughts. I did not telephone but used the companies' email as provided on their websites. The thinking behind this was that it would give them the chance to look and think about what they could do for us, to expect an instant telephone response...

Just HOW do I get a quote for a cantilever carport ?

All I want is a quote as to how much it will be to have a cantilever carport attached to the gable end of the bungalow. Nothing special, just an ordinary carport. It is the last stage in our improvement plan. I have contacted four companies (one local-sort off as we are very rural and three...

    Heron and Pond !

We are in rural East Northants, Nene Valley area, lots of open water around and the herons ! The pond should look like the first picture but after cutting the reed/iris/rushes back ( a mistake in retrospect) we had to take drastic action after the local bird spotted the goldfish. The stakes and...

Looks like the pond has a leak, what to do ?

24 hrs later and GOOD NEWS. The two pumps and filter were all turned off as suggested and pond topped up to a marked level. After 24 hrs there has been no negligible drop in level and a much closer examination of the area around the waterfall points to that being the problem. Too much new plant...

Looks like the pond has a leak, what to do ?

Thanks all, I have turned off the pump/filter etc but all the bits out of the water appear dry so I will see what happens to the still water over the next day or so then take it from there. Cheers Brian.

Looks like the pond has a leak, what to do ?

The garden pond must be 10 years old at least, we moved here three years ago. It is heart shaped, about 3-4m diameter. The liner is held under granite pavers all around the edge. It is now dropping the level by 2/3 inches per day and I keep having to top it up as it has goldfish and plants etc...

Kitchen sink. White, shiny and smooth. Only ceramic ??

Thanks but Yes, I had already found that out. Our kitchen sink is a composite and has the grainy surface. Wife wants a smooth and shiny surface on the new sink so is that ceramic only ?

Kitchen sink. White, shiny and smooth. Only ceramic ??

Wife wants to update the utility room and replace the old ss sink with a white, shiny and smooth finished sink. Are there any composite sinks that have a smooth and glossy finish or will it have to be a ceramic one ? She wants an inset, not a Belfast style. Thanks Brian.

    Building Regs in 2005 question.

Ah, thanks, so specification can be achieved in different ways, didn't know that. I'll give the planning office a try and see if they have any records that might help, otherwise it will be a "hole in the wall' jobbie. !! Cheers Brian.

    Building Regs in 2005 question.

Thanks. If there was an 'option' then I think I'll pop into the planning office next time I'm out that way and see if their records are specific in detail. Other wise I suppose the only alternative is to drill a hole in the skin and see what comes out ! Cheers Brian.

    Building Regs in 2005 question.

A bedroom extension on our bungalow was given planning permission in late 2004 and so I assume built during 2005. Outer skin is brick and the inner wall is some type of block construction. Would the planning/building regulations of 2005 required an insulation layer between the brick and block...

Fish falling from the sky ??

We had a humdinger of a thunder storm/rain etc last night, went on for quite a while including a lightening light show. On the lawn this morning were these two fish. NO, they didn't escape from the pond as that is just Goldfish and newts. I assume that they were picked up by the freak weather...

Drain pipes blocked but not that simple !

Yes, son did it like that because the blockage is underground and so as the water rises it will flow out easier. he said it is away from the wall. Cheers Brian.

Drain pipes blocked but not that simple !

Son has been busy and made a temp' fix as picture. He says the square pipe is fixed firm in the concrete and won't pull out but he now has access. A few inches down and it's a 90 degree bend under a concrete patio. He tried flushing with the hose but all that came back was a gritty suspension...

Drain pipes blocked but not that simple !

Thanks for the reply. The downpipes are not blocked, that was his first check. Yes, the pipes go directly into/through the concrete path. He has no idea even if there is a soakaway, he just assumes that there must be (building regs) but how do you find it ? Garden is lawn/flowerbeds and all...

Drain pipes blocked but not that simple !

On behalf of my son. Last year he moved into a 30 year old (late 70's/early 80's built) house. It is on a large estate development, a mix of sizes and styles. This week he found out that the rain water is not draining away from roof and garage and is backing up in the downpipes and then...
