    CAT5

Hi Guys, I was in the process of fitting CAT5 wiring into several rooms (before plastering) to connect to a hub for internet routing. However after looking for advice on doing that, I've realised it can be used for a/v. Can anyone explain what I need to do in simple terms. How many cables going...

    Anyone had Ad.yieldmanager?

Ive already done that which prevents pop ups but reading other sites its supposed to be 'like' a cookie but acts as spyware. It does not seem to be malware or spyware so the anti software doesnt pick it up. If that makes sense.

    Anyone had Ad.yieldmanager?

Thanks JohnD Tried the free one which picked up a more stuff than AVG but Ad.yieldmanager is still there. I can see it briefly pop up on the progress bar when on IE8.

    Anyone had Ad.yieldmanager?

Hi, I consider myself a bit of dunce with PCs but usually manage to do what I need but I'm really stuck on removing Ad.yieldmanager. Its supposed to be a cookie but after deleting cookies, temp files, scans with AVG , defender, malwarebytes and checking other sites I'm at a loss. Im running...

    floor screed and insulation question

Ive just been looking into this myself and have to agree with noseall. Make sure your sub slab is flat to evenly support the insulation. (see my post "sole plate can go where?" This stops any movement in the ins and hence the screed will not flex and crack. I asked my BC about this and it seems...

    Sole plate can go where?

Thanks guys I put the ins ontop of slab to have more efficient ufh reaction. However Im concerned the screed could crack due to flexing so I'm adding fibres and possibly SBR. Ive had a nightmare getting rid of the hollows and high spots on the slab. It may help someone reading this, I mixed...

    Sole plate can go where?

I'm putting down a floating screed (sand/cement) with ufh on 100mm insulation over concrete subfloor.(dpm under). I guess where the non load bearing stud wall sole plate is fitted is a matter of personal preference and was going to fit it on top where the expansion joints are.(70m split into 3...

routing ring main, celotex & underfloor heating

Ban-all-sheds you've made me think and yes you're right, I could run radials. I could fit 3, and 2 spurs from existing ring to get to other side of windows. Thanks all, I've now got options.

routing ring main, celotex & underfloor heating

Thanks guys, 2 radials would be ideal but the extension is 85m square so would not work. I also thought of extending the existing ring main but for the same reason plus the windows, it wouldnt work. Now I get you Eric, I'd prefer twin and earth and if I run up and down the wall to the...

routing ring main, celotex & underfloor heating

MMmmm, Eric. Coljak, its a bungalow with a vaulted floor to roof window and patio door with 150mm celotex in the roof. If I go roof route I cant avoid insulation. Thanks Chapeau, plastic conduit and chased into slab, it is then.

routing ring main, celotex & underfloor heating

Hi All Due to a floor to roof window I have to route the ring main conduit down through 75mm of tiled wet underfloor heating screed and 100mm of celotex. To avoid derating, can I chase a channel in the slab and lay under the insulation? Only the slab is down. Out of interest 17th edition...

    Warning-timber prices going up 40%

Thats delivered and I like I said I'm a self builder so dont expect a discount as big as regular buyers in the trade. I make my savings on ebay and other areas. By trade I'm an Electro/Mechanical Production Engineer. But nice to know I could squeeze my supplier if I was in the trade. Maybe its...

    Warning-timber prices going up 40%

To me TP and wickes are expensive, I'm paying £1.60 per metre for C16 4x2. This is going up to £2.24. I just want people to check their quotes and if like me doing a self build get it in now. Maybe its time to look for another supplier if it is sourced from Canada.

    Warning-timber prices going up 40%

Thats not a typo. My local supplier has said due to a lack of demand the mills in Canada are shutting down but the remainder are hiking up the price. My supplier is putting up their prices as soon as current stock runs out.

Steel work and stud wall-lifes too short.

Thanks guys for taking an interest. The steels are 203x133 and Ive attached more photos for you so you can see the rafters are birdsmouthed. The steels were originaly smaller but although the deflection was 11mm and deemed OK it was thought to be too close by a 2nd structural guy, and beefed up...
