    Toilet cistern slow leak

Agree the valve in earlier pics doesn't look great, but if the leak was there, wouldn't it be a constant trickle inside the toilet pan, not outside the cistern? (If my understanding is correct) The part about not being able to tighten without removing cistern from pan, is this regarding the...

    Toilet cistern slow leak

After checking, it seems to constantly form a puddle regardless of whether I've just flushed or not. Perhaps it could be from the 2 bolts either side of mech. Last time it was obvious as water was on the thread near the wing nuts, but maybe this time it doesn't get that far because of the big...

    Toilet cistern slow leak

It's not the 2 bolts as I changed these a few years ago when they had corroded, and actually was leaking from them. I think it must be the seal that Jeff mentions, because even if the seals in the mechanism are dodgy, the donut seal should still stop any water from getting outside the cistern...

    Toilet cistern slow leak

We have a little puddle forming between the toilet seat hinge area, and bottom of cistern. I suspect it maybe the gasket seal between cistern and pan. I removed the internal dual flush tube mechanism thingy from inside the cistern, and checked the seals there. Didn't seem too bad, cleaned them...

    Outdoor PIR light question

That could be a good solution. Was looking at feeding the cable straight down from above, so there will be less mortar to play with. Hopefully enough to reach the gland at back of light though.

    Outdoor PIR light question

I am looking at replacing an old metal PIR lantern at our front door. It was already there when we moved in, and has been wired with conduit running on the outside of the wall. I was looking at a half lantern this time, possibly the LAP LED one from Screwfix, or one from Toolstation that take...

    Laminate floor chip repair?

I've got laminate flooring in the hallway with a 5p sized chip in it. As the colour is dark, the exposed light coloured MDF(?) under sticks out now. Is there a way to repair this at all? Thinking wax etc not really suitable for flooring with heavy traffic. Cheers.

Can you easily replace uPVC door hinges?

Was thinking of using touch-up paint, rather than replace the hinge parts as they are quite expensive, and the paint seems to come of easy on these exposing the metal underneath. Any recommendations on paint? Cheers.

    Door handle fixing

An update; ordered the sleeve screws/nuts from JohnD's link above. Luckily I found the other counterpart handle in shed, so decided just to stick that on other side of door, to act like a big washer in effect. Took a little longer than anticipated. Had to make the holes on one of the handles...

Can you easily replace uPVC door hinges?

Those do look like the ones fitted. There are what looks like 4 screws possibly securing the cover cap that maybe the only bit that needs changing. Not sure how you would get the right angle to use a screwdriver without taking the door off though... Cheers.

Can you easily replace uPVC door hinges?

Hi all, Got some uPVC door hinges that have scapes on them. Looking to see how easy it is to source replacements and swap over. Do-able? Cheers

uPVC Patio Door Restrictor screw size?

Yep, not very helpful from the supplier. Shame they couldn't supply some fixings with the restrictors either. Cheers, I'll check those out. SF don't seem to do equivalents to those, so might just order online from the website.

uPVC Patio Door Restrictor screw size?

Going to get some door restrictors from SF for some uPVC patio doors, but doesn't look like they come with fixings. Any suggestions of what screws to use? Cheers.

    Door handle fixing

This particular door is our understairs storage cupboard door, which only has a handle on the outside. I guess those fixings are more designed for holding 2 handle fixings together, but maybe would still work if I use washers. Just will look a bit odd

    Door handle fixing

Hi all, Got a door handle that keeps coming off. Essentially it is the screws that pull out, probably due to the cheap hollow panel door not providing a decent enough hold for the screw threads. Any suggestions? I was thinking if just trying screws with a bigger thread. Cheers.

    Bathroom extractor fan running slow

It would appear that there are newer versions of the Vent-Axia model I have, perhaps with more reliable electronics. I noticed the newer ones have a 5 year warranty versus the older 2 years one. They seem a bit more confident they will last longer perhaps.

    Bathroom extractor fan running slow

But been reading some of the reviews on Screwfix for my model, and they do say reliability is not great https://www.screwfix.com/p/vent-axia-vasf100t-3-2w-bathroom-extractor-fan-with-timer-white-240v/260hv Might replace it with a simpler one, like the Manrose? Cheers.

    Bathroom extractor fan running slow

I don't know if I'd call 5 years a long time? But I guess it gets a lot of run time and on/off switching. It's a timer fan connected to a pir switch, which also does the light. So probably not worth hooking the dust from the topside of fan then, more looking at just replacing the whole unit...

    Bathroom extractor fan running slow

Hi all, Our bathroom extractor fan started playing up, intermittently running and at a very slow/quiet speed. I took the cover off the bottom, and cleaned out the dust I could reach (was quiet a bit), but the fan blades still only turn at a very slow speed, sometimes not at all. I seem to...

    Heating by itself not working

Ordered new Drayton valve & actuator (Amazon sell these cheaper than Screwfix for some reason). Swapped the motorized valve over, and heating is now firing up. So must have been microswitch. Incidentally, it looks like the design has changed slightly. Whether it is more reliable, we shall see!
