    Tree reduction/pollarding costs

It is next to a public road, but not a main road (cul-de-sac) No TPOs came up when I searched on the council website. I don't believe the tree is that old, probably planted by the previous owner rather than the housing estate developer. I would make sure I picked a reputable tree surgeon off...

    Tree reduction/pollarding costs

I think the tree could be almost 7.5m in height (so not huge, but getting fairly big) Down South East, so probably the pricier end of quotes. Accessibility not an issue as it is out front next to road.

    Tree reduction/pollarding costs

Hi all, Got an Ash tree about the height of my house, and was looking at getting a reduction or pollarding to keep it at a reasonable size. Anyone one what sort of costs are reasonable for this type of job, if I get someone in to do it? Thanks.

    Fence post repair cost

Ok cheers. Might just do it myself again, but this time purchase a set of those post digger scissor gadgets to make it a bit easier. Raw materials+ tool probably £50.

    Fence post repair cost

Hi All, Currently got an old wooden featherboard fence, with wooden posts concreted straight into the ground. In the past, a couple of the posts rotted/broke at the base, and I repaired with those short concrete spurs that bolt into the post. It looks like another post has now gone, so...

    Window Sill Pushes Down

Ok thanks. Is this a common issue?

    Window Sill Pushes Down

Hi, I was leaning on our bedroom window sill, and noticed it now seems to move down when pressed. Guessing there is a void underneath or something, the other window sills in the house don't seem to do this (yet). Any easy fix for this? Guessing something along the lines of pulling the wooden...

    Digital Voltmeter at Lidl £9.99

For info to anyone still interested in getting one of these, they are still in Lidl ass of this morning (my local Lidl anyway) What is the square-wave function for?

    Digital Voltmeter at Lidl £9.99

Get one whilst Lidl have them in, and keep the receipt. If you don't like it, you could always return it (I believe Lidl return policy is not bad)

    Digital Voltmeter at Lidl £9.99

On mine the continuity check on the leads is a stable zero, however when I tried to check the resistance of a bit of metal, it was wandering up & down. I checked my car battery (with the engine off), and it read a stable 12.44V, which sounds about right. I did notice that the leads require a...

    Digital Voltmeter at Lidl £9.99

Hi all, For info they got a Powerfix Profi Digital Multimeter for sale at Lidl at the moment. Obviously no Fluke, but seems to be better quality than the usual ones for £10 and under. (Ok for the home DIY etc). Supposedly safety approved as well (unlike the Chinese eBay ones...) I picked one...

    Replacing a HW/CH Controller Box

Ok thanks, I'll give a go over Christmas :D

    Replacing a HW/CH Controller Box

Got a Drayton LP722 off Amazon in the end, thought I might tackle on one of my Christmas days off. Took off the old Potterton EP2002 faceplate, and was greeted by the below picture. Not quite what I thought it would be. There appears to be a floating wire (maybe it came out of terminal A?) and...

    Replacing a HW/CH Controller Box

I don't mind changing the backplate, and re-wiring into it. For the A,B,C,D wires, if they are not used & no longer catered for in the new backplate, I was thinking just shove them in choc-bloc, or maybe crimp together, and tuck back into wall? Cheers, KP.

    Replacing a HW/CH Controller Box

Going to bin the Hive idea, sounds like extra complications I wouldn't really use/need. Question - would the Drayton LP722 be compatible with the existing Potterton EP2002? Looking at the manual, it would appear so to me...

    Replacing a HW/CH Controller Box

Maybe once it is intially setup over wi-fi, the router element can be binned? Otherwise you would be stuck if your internet went down. Not sure I would like having household items permanently connected to the internet like that, with all the stuff in the news about security leaks, hackers...

    Replacing a HW/CH Controller Box

You've piqued my interest with these ''smart" thermostats. If I were to fit say the Hive controller (instead of the Potterton EP), in a nutshell it would use the existing wiring already present behind the Potterton EP2002 controller, and 'bypassing' the Potterton thermostat. Is that all is...

    Replacing a HW/CH Controller Box

I think for simplicity I'll just go with the Potterton EP2, though I might replace the backplate with the new one like you said. (It's old yellow and the plastic is probably crumbly) Just need to make sure I make a note of where all the wires went, and label them up. Will probably be a...

    Replacing a HW/CH Controller Box

Thanks Gasguru, After a bit of Googling, I found this blog that talks about replacing the older frontplates with the newer EP2 like you said. He did say that in reality the backplate should be changed too, due to the ton of wiring in it...
