    lead water main

Regardless of whether you change the lead pipe for something more modern (Blue MDPE pipe) or leave it in situ, you will have to run the pipe through a continuous (unbroken) duct before pouring any concrete. This is both a regulatory requirement, but more importantly common sense. As you will...

    stopcock

Not if you live in Merseyside you don't! If you use your outside stoptap at the boundary then be very careful - if you break it you will probably end up footing the bill for it's repair.

Quote accepted but don't want the work

Shoe covers gentlemen (and ladies) - cheap as chips and save a lot of hassle... Other option is "I'll take my shoes off, but if you think I'm pushing my wheelbarrow through the house with no tyre on you can stick your job!"

    Dual personalities

Gotta love the way that fastneattrowel starts off by accusing Softus of something, then is too tired to back up the accusation and then gets shot down in flames... (and no, I'm not Softus' alter ego)

How to clear paint in sink pipe

Avoid future blockages by getting them to pour excess paint in an old tub and putting a lid on it before chucking it in the bin instead of down the sink. Also works well for cooking fat - one of the most common causes of sewer blockage (along with sanitary products and rimblocks).

    The truth about 'Road Pricing'...

Usually stopped to prevent a breach of the peace or public order offences. Some of those "protestors" stopped are damn nearly terrorists themselves. I visited a customer once who I had to phone before arriving so I could be buzzed in to her gate. Why? Because 2 weeks before some...

    rants

Spoken well wise sage - perhaps it's because they don't have to change out of their Pyjamas's to drive the little sods to school, and would miss the start of Jeremy Kyle...

    TomTom One New Edition

Are BG a rip[ off for a new Ch/HW/Boiler system?

Not always. They will install a high flow combi on a house with poor incoming flow and then point customers to Water Co when they don't work... surely you would check the minimum incoming flow meets that in the MI's? I've seen six like this in the past few months, all BG.

    Leaking cold main!

Nope, Some will provide a free connection in the street if you do the work on your property first. Others will offer to do it a t a subsidised rate. Some Water Co's will repair a leak free or at a reduced rate, others will just hound you so that you repair it.

    Low water pressure

It says Lancashire on his profile... They should have told you the readings whilst they were taking them. Will have been a litres/min figure and either a pressure in bar or metres/head. Something along the lines of 9l/min@10m/h...?

    Leaking cold main!

As Bamber said: Water Company responsibility ends at the highway boundary. Give them a call, they may be able to offer you some assistance and might even repair the leak for you if they have a scheme.

    Low water pressure

Is it a constant drop (as in always bad) or does it start good and then peter out pretty quickly? Have you had any plumbing work done recently, or had the water off at weither your internal stoptap or outside (mains) stoptap?

    Pipe Puzzle

What material is the pipe? If it is MDPE or Alkethene (plastics) then it can probably be squeezed. If it can't be squeezed then you can always try "snatching" a tap on outside (fitting live). Requires a bit of determination and a good pair of wellies but it is quite simple.
