Plastering along bottom edge of wall?

I need to put anew bottom edge on a plastered wall. The rest of the wall is good, but the bottom edge was messy and much has come away when the old skirtings were removed. How best to get a sharp edge? The wall is quite uneven. I've tried wooden battens, but they don't seem to work for me. Is...

    Plaster onto wooden lintel?

Thanks for that. There is virtually no depth to play with at all. I would guess that the way to go is to use the thinnest possible steel mesh, nailed on and then coated over.

    Plaster onto wooden lintel?

Tidying up an upstairs room, I've found to my surprise that what I thought was a concrete lintel with a couple of courses of bricks above is in fact a series of wooden beams one above the other. It's sound enough, but the problem is the plaster, which came off when I removed a curtain rail (4...

    Terrifying DIY

One house I bought was owned by a DIY nutter. That's nutter in capitals and neon lights. I think B&Q must have had his picture up with candles in front of it. If he could get at it, he wrecked it. The only thing that was good was the roof, and that's only because he couldn't get on it. Water...

    Silk paint problem

I've just bought a house. The plaster is 1970's and good. Unfortunately, the previous owner painted it with Silk paint. This has not bonded at all and sits on the plaster like a sheet of spray-on plastic. I can't matt emulsion over it because (a) The two don't agree anyway, and (b) large flakes...

    Painted plaster: what to do?

Having stripped off numerous layers of wallpaper, I am now confronted with a ghastly truth: gloss painted plaster. All I want is a straightforward plaster wall with emulsion on it. What can I do with this? I can't put emulsion on it, because it won't bond due to the gloss paint.

    Asphalt floor problem

I have a 1950's ex-Council House. The floor is concrete with what appears to be 20mm of asphalt on top. (1) The concrete floor has cracked (hairline-3mm) due to settlement. (2A) The asphalt has followed suit and also cracked. (2B) In one area, a section of asphalt has been removed...
