    Loose neutral

Yeah, as I say will be replacing it regardless. Noticed the earth sleeving (or lack of) so will be doing that too. Rubber grommet presumably goes where the cable enters the back box? I'll pick some up. Thanks. I'd not heard of the green goo issue before this, but now I know about it and the...

    Loose neutral

Thanks for replies. Definitely wired correctly, i.e. black neutral wire in neutral terminal, red in live terminal. I wasn't showing any particular wire in that photo, just the wiring in general, live is just more in focus than the rest. Is the socket definitely damaged? I saw no sign of damage...

    Loose neutral

Hi Had an issue with a socket last night. It briefly made a weird fuzzing sound before tripping the switch. I shut off power and opened it up, the neutral was loose in the terminal, which explains what happened (intermittent connection causing arcing & tripping switch?). What I don't understand...

Concrete hardening time: Heating oil tank & concrete slab

Hi Not sure if this is the right section for this question? How long after a concrete slab is laid can a heating oil tank be fitted on top of it? Slab will be 100mm thick, 2.5x2.5. Tank will be a 1200l plastic low profile tank. It won't red filling straight away so will just be the weight of...

New-build: tearing out bath & replacing with double-shower?

Can't really help you with a cost I'm afraid, I tend to diy everything as I can't afford tradesmen. Buying good quality stuff and getting someone in I wouldn't expect to pay more than 2500 though, but that's a bit if a guess. And....

New-build: tearing out bath & replacing with double-shower?

Budget wise, it really varies. For me, roughly.. Shower tray £80 Door £140 Shower £100 Moisture board, tanking, tiles etc £160 Pipes, wastes, sealant etc £30 You could easily spend twice that or even five times that. I went to Victorian Plumbing & Wickes.

New-build: tearing out bath & replacing with double-shower?

Yep, pretty much straight forward, I did this myself. Removed an old bath, boarded walls with moisture board, coated with tanking liquid, rerouted pipes (inc waste), fitted double shower tray (on legs), fit bar shower fixing plate, tiled walls, grout, fit sliding shower door (gave tile adhesive...

Ok thanks, think I'll get a 2nd quote. Haven't got time to do it myself.

Quote for concrete slab.. seem ok?

It's pretty much already dug out, so minimal work there and no real need for a skip as there's currently nothing to get rid of.

Quote for concrete slab.. seem ok?

Hi. Just had a quote for a concrete slab to be fitted. Size is 2.4m x 2.4m, mot 1 + 75mm concrete, trowel finish, £800. Does that seem about right? Was expecting nearer £500 to be honest.

    10mm insulated backer boards

    Heating does nothing to help?

    10mm insulated backer boards

All floor tiles are cold, but will the insulated backer boards do much to prevent them getting too cold?

    10mm insulated backer boards

Hi Want to tile floors downstairs using natural slate tiles over a concrete subfloor. Haven't got the money for u/f heating though, so a little worried floor is going to be very cold in winter. Rooms will have internal wall insulation + good level of loft insulation upstairs, double glaze...

    Mixed opinions regarding combis/large houses

Thanks. Not sure how old it is, just know when it was last serviced. Our main reason for switching though is moving from lpg to oil.

Btu output of a standard radiator

Thanks. So as a rule of thumb column radiators are more costly to run than panels?

Btu output of a standard radiator

Bit of a long shot, but is it possible to get an idea of heat output on a standard style panel radiator? Size is 1400mm X 600mm with 10mm feed pipes. Bad pic of it below. I've found info for them online, but are these ones likely to be very similar spec? Want to know if changing it to...

    Mixed opinions regarding combis/large houses

Switching to oil from lpg for convenience (holiday let). Also the boiler is fairly old, it was last serviced July 2012.
