    Outside socket cable

@sparkwright I thought probably standard PVC or rubber flex in PVC conduit. I might want to bury it in the future and change the run, so maybe SWA and over spec the length as the spare length can sit under some decking.

    Outside socket cable

I’m installing an outside double socket for a submersible pump. I’m planning on using RCD protected cable 2.5mm for approximately 30m run. It’s not mains wired, it’ll be plugged into another external socket. I assume it doesn’t need to be signed off or installed by a sparky? For safety I’ll...

Starting to sound like it isn’t a DIY job

    Replacing window?

My double glazing seal has gone. It looks like I can swap out the glazed unit, although it seems odd to me the edge you remove/replace is on the outside? Can anyone confirm it’s just a case of tapping the edges out and replacing? I’ve done it before on doors and in ground floor windows, just...

    Easy fill showing through

I’ve filled, sanded, misted and done 2 coats of a decent Matt white emulsion. Some, but not all of the patches are showing through. Any ideas what I can try next? Thoughts so far: 1. more coats of emulsion 2. Primer (can I prime over the current top coat?) 3. Lining Paper then re paint 4. Give...

    New valves

I opted to nip out and get a pipe slice. I’m changing a few rads and it’s not the on one like this. Just need to make sure I don’t take too much off one pipe and leave the rad skewed when I come to put it back! currently have levelled pencil lines on almost every wall

    New valves

Cheers. I can pull the pipe up a bit, so will give that a go. i don’t have the kit to solder up new pipe work. But I have pipe and couplers. I know it’ll look fairy ugly, but as a bodge to give me pipe length can I add in a compression coupler? that at least allow me to turn the water Back on...

    New valves

I’ve removed an old valve in anticipation of putting on a new radiator. Old fitting stripped down, new fitting leaks... my he new valve moves, so it’s the new compression fitting and olive. Picture attached. I think I need to remove 10mm of the old pipe so the compression fit is on the widest...

    Two System Drains

I have found what I assume is the system drain in my garage (previous owner thoughtfully left a length of hose on it). However, I have also found on in my 1st floor over garage extension... Real noob question, but will I have to use both? I only have one system. Also, any idea why someone...

    Top window reveal cracking

Skimmed over some mesh. Yes I assume it was done when the frames were done.

    Top window reveal cracking

It looks like someone plastered about 2cm using skim and then the rail was secured into it with those humongous nails you get in old skirting boards. When I pulled them out half the wall came with them and it just cracked along the bonding Join between The undercoat and the massive piece of Skim.

    Top window reveal cracking

I’ve recently stripped back my small bedroom and removed a curtain rails to find the plaster underneath totally cracking and hanging off the reveal. My plan was to hack it all off, build up a scratch coat, bead it and skim. Does anyone think something more is required? The other rooms I’ve...

    Carpet runner installation

The decorator that did this is incredibly unreliable. He’s not shown up 3-4 times to sort some snags. He disappeared half way through the job for almost 2 weeks. So... it’s probably a days job for another decorator?

    Carpet runner installation

Yeah, although I want it fixed the decorators opinion and an idea of cost before I settle the carpet bill. I’m tending to agree with you. I wouldn’t have grumbled if the whole job took a £100 more, so that much to fix it now wont bother me.

    Carpet runner installation

I had a runner installed and a crack has appeared in the plaster/paint work. I spotted it the day after the runner was installed. Carpet fitter says it wasn’t them. Decorator says it isn’t his fault. Anyone have a view on who is most likely at fault? I haven’t paid the carpet fitter in full...

    Removing old BT boxes

Thanks @UncleB does that mean I can’t move my existing BT master socket? I had one installed around the back of my furniture, I’m now doing a major redecoration and it’s in a bad position now

    Socket it is then!

    Power cables in the wall?

@flameport I need a sparky to fit the wiring though? Even though I know what cable to use and how to spur from the existing ring?

    Power cables in the wall?

@flameport purely to avoid the cost of getting an electrician in Oh and I’ve seen some terrible interference from power cables so I’d considered putting two trunks in

    Power cables in the wall?

Probably the HDMI would, bit not the power. It’ll move a little in the trunking so it won’t break the plaster work. I’m unlikely to want to change the cabling tbh. If I do I can replace the cable ends myself.
