D-Head Ring nails or Plain Nails ?

Hi, I've just got myself an air compressed frame nailer to build a timber frame building. I'm going to be using 90mm collated nail, but the choice is between D-head Ring, and D-head Plain? Whats the difference?, and which one's better for framing Thanks in advance

    Treated timber for sole plate?

Sorry, Deluks. I have taken your advice on-board. Just one thing, everyone is telling me to go with a dwarf wall, and wrap the DPM from under the slab, and wrap up the side of the slab and under the first course of bricks. But when mention about not using a dwarf wall, but still wrapping...

    Treated timber for sole plate?

I'm just a bit worried about shrinkage, as i'm plastering the interior. I know treated timber will shrink quite a bit, and dont want it cracking the plaster?

    Treated timber for sole plate?

I'm building a toilet/shower building on my campsite. The bottom of the timber frame will be close to ground level. I'm thinking of laying my concrete slab, with the DPM underneath. Then bring the DPM up the sides of the slab, DPC on top, and then fix a treated soleplate on top. So, Slab - DPM -...

Timber frame building - Dwarf wall, or not?

Thanks very much for the info guys, much appreciated. The slab should protrude about 3 inches up from ground level, so i'm not going to lay any dwarf wall. The slab will only be large enough for the timber frame and sheathing, and once i clad the building in horizontal shiplap, any rain, or...

Timber frame building - Dwarf wall, or not?

I intend to tile the floor. I was going to have surface water soakaways around the perimeter of the building and a layer of pea shingle a metre wide around the edge of the building. What do i do with the DPM? Does it go under the single course dwarf wall? So working up: Slab - DPM under...

Timber frame building - Dwarf wall, or not?

Thanks. I was going to put a DPM under the slab. If i build a course of bricks on top of the slab it should be roughy 150mm above ground. Do i then fold the DPM over the top of the bricks? And then lay the DPC on top of that, and then put my sole plate on top? I've included a diagram, sorry...

Timber frame building - Dwarf wall, or not?

Thanks Deluks for the response. The building will be a shower/toilet building on my campsite. Only being used in the summer. Haven't started it yet, but want to do it right. How does the DPM and DPC best connect?

Timber frame building - Dwarf wall, or not?

I'm about to construct a timber frame building 10m X 6m. It's going to go on a concrete slab of the same size. Obviously, once the cladding goes on, the building will be a tad larger than the slab. A few people have recomended laying a single course of engineered bricks on the slab, and then...

Ground Source Heat pump form hot water needs at campsite

Thanks for the advice guys. The campsite will have 5 showers, 7 basins and have 80-100 people staying at absolute peak. (July & Aug). Other periods of the year the demand will be nowhere near this. The showers will be low flow, timed control button, so probably 5 litres per minute x 5 mins...

Ground Source Heat pump form hot water needs at campsite

Thanks for the advice guys. These rinnai water heaters seem to be loads cheaper than Andrew Gas heaters. One model produces 979 litre/hr raised 50oC and its about £1500. That's loads cheaper than Andrews, over half the price?

Ground Source Heat pump form hot water needs at campsite

About to build a toilet/shower on a campsite. 2200 litres needed for morning showers, was considering an Andrew Gas water heater which was sized and the cost £4000 + Bulk gas tank at £500 per fill. Would easily cover hot water needed. But keen to safe money in the long run, and is...

    Campsite Soil/Waste design (Please help)

Thanks Hugh and Flame, I was considering concreting the main soil pipe in the slab, as i need to put the main partition down the centre of the building splitting the gents and ladies. I suppose i could place an access bend at the high end of the soil pipe? Is the vent in the correct...

    Campsite Soil/Waste design (Please help)

Thanks for the response. No, nowhere building control yet. Haven't even prepared the forms for the slab yet. Just wanted to get this sorted before i do anything. Obviously, all the drainage needs will have to run down the centre of the building toward the septic tank. The septic will be...

    Campsite Soil/Waste design (Please help)

Hi, I'm about to start building a timber frame toilet/shower building on a concrete slab. Before i pour the concrete, i want to leave a channel down the centre (length ways) of the slab for a 110mm sewer pipe, and all the connection junctions for the 6 toilets, 6 basins, and 4 showers. I...
