    Toyota avensis not starting

Haven't worked on Toyota for about 6 years but: The sirens on the Avensis were prone to getting water ingress and this could cause the indicators to flash at random. Also sounds like the vehicle alarm is armed which is why the lights flash when the door is opened (In this case the siren is...

    Paint flaking off plaster repair.

It was powdered plaster I used but didn't seal it first so that's probably the problem. I'll sand it down and give it a mist coat and try again. Thanks.

    Paint flaking off plaster repair.

Hi. Must have done something wrong but what? Made a small repair to a plaster board wall and finished it with a skim of B&Q finishing plaster. Left it for at least 5 days and then painted the whole wall with a roller. Just one coat so far but it is flaking over the repair. Any ideas? Thanks.

    A Bitter Pill To Swallow!

You're talking bolloks. It is costing my brother, sister and I nearly £800 a week, repeat £800 a WEEK to keep my mum (92) in a Glasgow care home. After my dad died my mum lived with my brother as she could not take care of herself. He managed that for 4 years and her house was sold. That money...

    How many women tackle DIY?

Now - borderline sexism bit. Are men are more likely to be craftsmen because they are able to focus more strongly one a single task, rather than the women's renowned ability to multitask? Women multitask????????????? Haven't met one yet who can have a headache and sex at the same time.

    Wheel balancing problem.

Spoke to a Suzuki techy today who came into my work for some BMW parts and it is a common problem you will never cure 100%. Do a google on Suzuki Jimny steering wobble and you will have hours of reading on the issue.

Check valve. Do I need one?

Running a new pipe isn't really an option. I'll fit single check valves to both pipes and hopefully get good enough flow. Thanks for all the replies.

Check valve. Do I need one?

Can't find any info on the tap which appears to be unbranded. Unmarked box with no details inside. Have taken the end off the tap and it looks like the water mixes in the body. Have connected the pipes to the tap and I can blow and suck through both easily so no valves fitted internally.

Looking for some tiling advice - Glasgow area

I would ask tictic to have a look at it for you. Don't know him but get the impression he is top notch. Although after the match last night he might not be here for a bit  He is bound to support Rangers or Celtic. (jct is over 100 miles away)

Hi. Trying to get organised for the weekend with parts required to remove pedestal basin and fit a vanity unit. Can't measure internal diameters at present but external diameters are 37mm for basin waste which goes into a T 43mm from the bath to one side of the T 56mm from the T to the...

Smell of gas as boiler fires up.

Ok thanks. I'll tell her to get it checked out. Her brother works for British Gas but isn't interested in doing any work and he recommended the men who fitted it. Combi boiler and replace all the rads and pipes as they wouldn't take the pressure??. (Her system was 30 years old) One man has...

Smell of gas as boiler fires up.

Hi guys. Quick question on behalf of a friend. She recently had a new combi boiler fitted and it seems to be working ok but a few times I have been approaching the back door (the boiler is in the kitchen with the flue next to the door) just as the boiler fires up and even on a breezy day there...

what are my rights after being a victim of Dot & Dab til

Interesting post. One thing that would worry me is that you don't have an address for him and got his number off a leaflet. I am assuming that number is for a mobile and that just screams ***** to me. Wouldn't want to mess with them. Any sign writing on his van? Good luck.

Allowances for Rad Sizing for a Room With ..

Yes that is right. As with many things there are different ways of measuring. Contrast ratios on televisions for example can be static or dynamic (possibly other ways too) and give vastly different figures so I believe all you get now is low, medium or high.

Dimension of towel rad to replace panel rad?

Just noticed that Toolstation do a white 1600 x 550 with 2508btu. Depth wall to front is 85 / 100mm which might be a bit much. £115 so not bad.

Allowances for Rad Sizing for a Room With ..

As a motor vehicle technician of some 38 years that is correct. I think it was the Germans I first saw using kW instead of bhp. You can also use PS a a measure of power. Incidentally a kW is about 1.34bhp. Sorry to interupt your argument. :D

Dimension of towel rad to replace panel rad?

Just a single. 600 x 480 House is almost 10 years old if that is a factor. Also looking for a cheap source for a white towel rad with about 550mm pipe centres for the above.
