    laying tiles in my bathroom

Screw the tongue and groove (chipboard?) down properly to stop the squeeks. Use a proper floor tile adhesive. Most say "flexible floor adhesive" on the tub so should be ideal.

Bit twee but what are the implications?

I'm no plumber but I do brush my teeth on occasioin and when I do, I like to lean on the sink. I also drop things in the sink when I am tired and confused in the moring. I have to say I reckon the bowl could chip or worse, break, very easily if used daily. Dropping a full can of shaving foam...

Is this allowed? - Adding a new cable.

Yeah, my backup plan is as follows: 1. Try wire to wire. 2. string and weights 3. coat hanger 4. bits of pipe to feed wire down, 5. chisel + hammer. Remove bits of wire, string weights stuck coat hanger from wall. Fit conduit and add wire properly. Plaster over. Drink beer, job done...

I currently have an extractor fan and one ceiling light controlled by one light switch. One metre or so above the switch is the feed which comes from a fused switch. I want to split the fan and light to be independantly switched so last night tried to put another single wire behind and down...

Changing one switch to double for extractor fan.

Hi hope you can help. I previoulsy had an extractor fan in my kitchen that would come on when the light switch was switched on and stay on for a timed delay afterwards. It was old, noisy, covered in thick grease, so I have removed it and would like to fit a new fan. I want to fit a separate...

    Hot tap turns itself off!

Hello, I have a combi boiler in my flat. When I turn the hot tap on in the kitchen the water flows but slowly starts to reduce in speed. I have to turn the tap on a bit more to get the flow back, or else the bolier stops firing and heating the water. Its not a big problem, just annoying...

    Draining hot water system

Many thanks, so my assumptions are correct then apart from the filling loop bit, I just thought thats for the CH system isn't it? I realise I dont want to drain radiators or anything. I just dont really now much about Combi boilers. Im used to conventional header tanks and the like so...

    push fit vs compression

I have to say, I am yet to find a push fit that can disconnected easily!! Even with the tool I have usually ended up cutting the pipe and using a soldered joint. I would go compression fittings and just makes sure they dont leak.

    Towel Rail

You should have got the two blanking fixings for the top of the radiator with the radiator. As you say one is a blank, the other a bleed valve. The bottom valves you will have to buy separately. Any valves for normal radiators will do, but the chrome ones will look best. Decide how you are...

Kitchen ventilation cooker hood or extraction fan.

Yep, gas cooker and gas hob, but I intend to get a dual fuel cooker and hob at some point. Also has combi boiler in the kitchen which is flued to the outside, which was done when the flats were built. Ok, well I better have a look for some nice fans then I suppose! Cheers for the reply.

    Help, have I got rot!?

I moved into a ground floor flat the other week, and just ripped up the carpet to find a little surprise. Below are pictures of what I think is rising damp. The chip board floor edging is all black and powdery under the carpet underlay. It washes off the surface of the chip board fine. There...
