Emptying the ashes, whats best way?

I am guessing the Numatic NV350 cannot cope with hot ashes when you say you let it go out? Is there such a thing that will work with hot ashes or would the cost be prohibitive? (will look up the Numatic NV350 on the net to see the spec.) Thanks for that.

Emptying the ashes, whats best way?

Would do that BUT... wandering across the living room, down a long passageway across the kitchen with an ash pan full or red hot embers, only to open the outside door to be met with a gale blowing back into the house, and negotiate the pathway to the bins. By the time I got there the carpets...

Emptying the ashes, whats best way?

. . We have a multifuel stove with two ash pans under the grate. To stop the grate burning out I try to keep the level of the ash to a minimum and so empty it quite frequently. Trouble is, as the ashes are hot when I lift the pan out and tip the ashes into a metal bucket the dust...

How to get rid of cluster flies in loft?

Sorry Mr. Moderator... won't post to more than one forum in future.. ladyLola, tahnks for your reply:- Posted: Mon Nov 08, 2010 6:18 pm Post Subject: Ok another try. As you are worried about the bats and rightly so a "smoke" type of fumigation may not be ideal as is the case with a...

How to get rid of cluster flies in loft?

I have found them in there from time to time but not sure if they have taken up permanent residence there. They may be in the soffits or the cavity and stray into the loft now and then..... Just looking for a "bat friendly" insecticide to fog the whole loft if anyone knows of one??

How to get rid of cluster flies in loft?

. . LOL.... been there, done that with the Africa thing and it was more than a few months..., wonder if you have? Yes, the damned things get through every nook and cranny and DO travel through the water system. Now I don't mind particualarly being sat in the bath and when you turn the...

How to get rid of cluster flies in loft?

No I don't think fly paper would work, the tpe of flies (cluster flies) don't have the same "flight pattern" as the housefly that will and on certain places if you see what I mean. Cluster flies are real dozy, lazy flyers and randomly bumble about. An insectocuter may work but it is the sheer...

How to get rid of cluster flies in loft?

What are you on Mr. Chippy?? LOL... Whatever it is can I have some.... :) No, they aren't doing any harm up there, they told me they were just hanging around for spring whereupon they will evacuate the premises, go off into the garden and parasitise the local earthworm population, so...

How to get rid of cluster flies in loft?

My loft is an annual roost for cluster flies, thousands of them... I could smoke bomb the whole loft, and/or use a slow release insecticide. Does anyone know of a "bat friendly" way of getting rid of these flies as the above may be a bit harsh on any potential bats that may be living in...

How to size a new room radiator?

Can anyone tell me how to determine the size of room radiators? As a rule of thumb what would you say the BTU requirements per M cubed should be? I know there are lots of factors, construction of the building, aspect, location etc etc. The ones in the property vary from 140BTU/hr/m cube...

Installing a decorative hearth - how to?

I have been trawling the web to see what the recommended practice is regards the installation of a decorative hearth. This is already installed but would like to find out if it is installed correctly. The concrete constructional hearth was there already, nice flat and level. The...

    Sack the plumber!

Although I wouldn't even trust this plumber with installing that correctly! 1) He has installed the registration plate with no access to clear any buildup of soot. 2) The air valve on the stove was installed "back to front" so the hotter the stove got the wider the air valve got...

    Sack the plumber!

Hindsight, yes would have been a good option... or have a completely separate system for the woodstove, maybe underfloor as it can be banked up and it will run a good 12 - 15 hours just ticking over... . .

    Sack the plumber!

Completion dates.... ?? When asked several times for a completion date the plumber has said (in writing) "well it should be finished by xx-xx-xx". Does that constitute a completion date, or has he been astute in his reply there? APHC gave no joy as he is only registered under them for...

    Sack the plumber!

Quite right Paul, a very poor level of competance indeed, that combined with just general poor workmanship has made our life a misery here. The whole system is way off spec. in my mind. We can't have hot water AND the central heating when running the wood burning stove despite us requesting in...
