    shower grout failure ?

I used a grout rake to remove the grout from 7 tiles on the bottom inside the shower and one on the next row above. The plywood underneath the bottom row was damp and not too bad on the row above. The ply in one corner had warped so it came into the shower by a good 1/2", I'll screw it...

    shower grout failure ?

Did you use a tanking system on top of the ply ? From memory no I did not. The wall under it was tanked to three feet up from the floor then the ply screwed on the wall I think. The wall is an external one at ground level but it is very well built even though it is below ground level on the...

    shower grout failure ?

A shower in the bathroom 6' square with no window but has a fan. Conversion in 2004. The shower is in one corner the base has a lip all the way round. Plywood on top of 3x2 studding was used as the backing for the shower walls which were then tiled. I noticed fungi growing at one corner...

    cold bathroom rad

Thanks for the comment regarding the insulation. I will not touch it. I will check the circuit for any air locks, I may shut the AGA down overnight and drain it is to see if that makes any difference. The query I have is that the expansion pipe coming off the feed into the HW cyl is only...

    cold bathroom rad

There is no pump on the AGA circuit and what you say is true about the tapping point for the rad in the loft. But this layout did work well with a HW cyl of 20 galls rather than the present 35 gall cyl.

    cold bathroom rad

The AGA heats the hot water cyl and is connected to the bathroom rad. The boiler heats 12 rads in other rooms.

    cold bathroom rad

    The two systems are separate.

    cold bathroom rad

Bit of a story, so are you sitting comfortably? The Aga used to have the bathroom rad connected to it to absorb some of the excess heat from the AGA. 4 years ago I installed a separate boiler and rads for central heating and I disconnected the bathroom rad from the AGA circuit and hooked...

    Bathroom fan

Thank you for all your posts. Can I ask a further question. I removed the flexible hose in the loft from where it was lodged and put my hand over it and the air flow is pretty feeble,so a change of fan looks on the cards. If I changed the fan where would be the best place to put the vent...

    Bathroom fan

4 years ago I converted two garages and a toolroom into annexe accommodation. One garage is a lounge the other is the kitchen and there are two bedrooms with a bathroom inbetween. The bathroom is 7'6 x 6' with a shower, toilet, bath and basin, so pretty compact. The bathroom has no window...

    Soldering a watering can

To elaborate the can was left outside over winter with water in it and the water froze which expanded and pushed the bottom out into a convex shape so that it would not stand up as normal. I hammered the base flat aware that it may break the joint between the base and the side and it now leaks...

    old type toilet siphon

A syvac aspirator is the required part. It is a push fit into the syphon from the underside of the cistern. I pushed to old one out by partially dimantling the siphon and using a hammer shaft to push it out. The required outside diameter of the aspirator is 42mm on this toilet. Thanks All

    Shower room floor repair

I lifted Ruabon 6" tiles to get access to two 15mm pipes which supplied a basin in the shower room. I rerouted the pipes externally and now I have to infill and repair the floor. The structure of the floor from top down is this: Tiles adhesive thin concrete layer compacted scree concrete...

    2 hours to burn out a £15 5" grinder

It was a Sunday and I wanted to do the job. Ideally I would have bought a Makita and blade for £50

    Dismantling toilet waste pipe?

There is not enough room. The 4" is in the corner with gaps around it and the 15mm are right in the corner of the wall. I need access to remove a T and pipe and to replace the T and new pipe.

    Dismantling toilet waste pipe?

Thank again for confirming my thoughts. There was a dent on the pipe where the rupture took place so I assumed it was footfall rather than corrosion

    2 hours to burn out a £15 5" grinder
