I went into B&Q earlier in the week to pick up some tapered edge platerboard to dry line. They told me they dont stock it anymore, Wickes had run out and werent sure if they were going to get anymore in now. Does anybody know if these TE boards are becoming obsolete or did i just get bad info...

    Sealing hole in wall

Hi, I drilled an 18mm hole in my brick wall that goes from my downstairs toilet to my garage. It has a 15mm copper pipe through it but it gets very cold and draughty in the winter. Whats the best way to seal this hole from the cold of the garage? Cheers Tom

    Shower Door

Have a look at how the frame is fixed to the walls, my shower enclosure has adjusting screws on the frame to allow for uneven walls on installation. If one of those has come loose the enclosure will sag and the door will drop. Worth a try....

    toilet water supply connection ?

I was advised to use a tap connector with my instructions, these will use a compression joint, taking the 15mm pipe at one end and then fasten onto the float valve at the other. Do not over tighten on the plastic thread though as i damaged mine!

I see what you mean. I like the idea of creating a shelf, that would look almost deliberate then. Cheers Tom

Gap created by swapping over bath?

Hi chaps, I have ordered a new bath which i will be swapping over in the new year. The current bath fits in my bathroom very snug - wall to wall. My new bath is shorter (1685mm) and will leave me with a 50-60mm gap between the bath and the wall. Any ideas of how to deal with this gap without...

    Wet kitchen worktop problems

Sorry, should've made it more clear. No, the sink has been sealed and is fine. I dont know how she does it but when my girlfriend washes up water always finds itself splashing out of the sink and down the fron of the kitchen units. When it does this it also gets underneath the worktop and the...

    Wet kitchen worktop problems

Hi, Our kitchen has been fitted for over a year now. It has a chipboard work top with a black marble look laminate. When we wash up water gathers under the work top (at the front) and has penetrated the chipboard making it swell. I'm worried that it will eventually damage the laminate. At...

Securing a WC to the floor

I just used silcon to fix mine down with as well as the screws - spot on, its not moving anywhere. Also, the toilet i bought said not to use a sand/cement motar mix. the whole reason for me replacing the toilet in the first place was because the old toilet was cemented in place and had cracked...

    Leak from cystern to pan

Its not a big job mate but i know what you mean about having confidence! So long as the water has been isolated then there is no pressure on you and you can take your time. You should be able to buy the whole fitting from B&Q, i havent been in there for a while but i'm sure they would stock it...

    Blocked bathroom sink

Motleyboy - you arent having much luck there fella! Is the sink blocked completely, ie is the water still or does it go down after a while? Try putting a caustic soda solution down there but be very careful as it is very dangerous, read the instructions. This will shift scum left by soap...

    Water main pipe size

Thats what i did when my original stop cock seized instead of trying to find one to fit the original pipe. I left it on place and just fitted my new stop cock and pipe work from there on.
