Thanks chaps, i'll check the cable before i start. My electrician is coming to certify other work i have done elsewhere in the house so i suppose i could get him to do it. I would like to have an understanding of whats going on though. Do you guys (or those of you that are professionals) get...

    Triton Ivory problem

Did everything look ok when you took the cover off? Are you getting no power at all? Cut the power and have a look at the connections in the pull switch.

    ultra sonic cat deterrent

This has been discussed a few times with different opinions on them. I did have one and it worked a treat for me, the reason why i dont use it anymore is because it took 2 9v batteries which needed replacing every few weeks. They do stop cats entering the garden and the dog would hear it easily...

    Bathroom extractor to shower supply

Hi, I notcied the other day that my extractor fan is wired directly to the pull switch of my electric shower (7.5kw). Although i like the idea of having the extractor come on with the shower and not the lights my electrician said it'll need changing. He said to keep the extractor wired to...

Low water pressure on bath taps

I have replaced the taps in the ensuite but not in the bathroom where the flow rate has dropped. Would this still cause the loss of pressure?

Low water pressure on bath taps

Hello! I recently replaced my en-suite bathroom suite. I noticed that the hot and cold feeds for the basin in were taken from the hot and cold from the bath in the next room. I kept this arrangement but altered the length of the pipes in order to move the basin in the en-suite. Since doing...

    scratched worktops

I had some adhesive left over that was used to fit the worktops to do my scratch. You can buy them in loads of different colours, i just spread mine in with a razor blade. That was a year ago and you wouldnt notice it 12 months on. Having said that i'm sure i've seen worktop repair kits.......

    Dismantling a shower

The first place to start on the electrics side of things is to see how its fed from the fuse box (ie a wireable fuse, MCB, RCD etc). Does the other shower room have an electric shower too? I would pull the MCB for that particular circuit, then from there the pull switch can be taken out (after...

    dettering cats

I used those ultra sonic cat deterrants, they work a treat but i got fed up of replacing the batteries every month. I too bought a water gun and that also works. My girlfriend works for the RSPCA and brings lots of injured birds home and you wouldnt believe the cats that come into the garden...

    Building a BBQ

I'm sure that ordinary house bricks are fine, as i said my old one was made of this and was well solid for years. I have done searches and cant find any reference to using special bricks. Heres a link i found that may be useful...

    Building a BBQ

Sounds like a good project, i would love to do one of these. I have seen that some places like B&Q do kits for building the kind of BBQ you are after which contain everything you need, excluding the bricks. To be honest i'm not sure if normal house bricks would do (our old BBQ was built of these...

    Sealing electric shower

Ok - cheers chaps. I'll take it that if theres no mention of it that it must require this "air gap". Cheers again Tom

    Sealing electric shower

Hello! Not quite sure which forum to post this on really but i guess you guys will have a better idea.... I have just fitted an electric shower onto tiles. Will i need to seal around the shower where it meets the wall? I'm just worried that if the electric unit is sprayed directly that...

Cats - How can I stop them using my garden as a public loo

Utterlydiy - They definately work, i replaced the batteries in mine about a month ago and they probably need replacing now. I'm not sure if the long grass was setting it off all the time which may have caused them to run down quicker.

    Tiling Shower

I understand, that makes sense now. Theres nothing stopping me from taking the enclosure off and tiling the surrounding areas before refitting it i suppose. Cheers for the replies chaps. Tom

    artex or textured paint?

Breezer - have you ever used it? If so is it easy to apply? I have tried plastering and TBH i think thats a job left up to the pro's but i would be willing to try this if its for the average DIYer

    Tiling Shower

Cheers for the replies chaps. The problem i had was that the tiles i selected were a mosaic design and so every 2 inches or so there would be a sunken grout line. I wasnt sure if the seal on this would have been as good had i fitted the shower over these.
