    Underground mains water pipe size

About to reroute / replace underground mains water supply pipe from water meter (near street) to stop cock, which is a run of approx 15m. All existing mains cold in the house (bungalow) from the stop cock is 15mm copper, so will 20mm MDPE be OK? Got an awkward bend to negotiate, so would...

    Smoke detectors Wiring

Many thanks. Just realised the extra depth comes from the additional pattress, but not necessary if wiring access from above - which I do have (bungalow).

    Smoke detectors Wiring

Very useful thread, answers just about all the Q's I had on the subject... :) Only other I have is can you recommend a brand(s) of interconnected smoke detector? Would prefer a low profile / slim type. Thanks.

    Remounting Meter & Incoming Supply

Bungalow had 3ph installed when built, but appears to have never been connected any further than the service fuses, and still had the original 1ph meter. I had the 3ph meter etc installed to supply garage / workshop.

    Remounting Meter & Incoming Supply

Many thanks for the replies guys! It's not what in the bungalow that needs 3ph....

    Remounting Meter & Incoming Supply

Have a modern digital 3ph meter which was installed about 4 years ago (meter located in the kitchen of a 60's bungalow) along with PME earthing. However, the meter and incoming fuses / connection blocks are still mounted on what looks like the original chipboard backboard. This has seen better...

What do i use as a straight edge

My best solution is cheap white faced Contiboard, get a 150mm wide 2.4m length (assuming that's long enough). Stable and easy to man handle in most situations.... oh, and it's cheap :)

    Fixing heavy radiator to wall.

Had exactly the same situation, though mine was a 2 column type rad, and my internal blocks are soft crumbly concrete. I resin fixed (using exactly the Fischer product you linked) four M6 studs (about 80mm long) per bracket, and once gone off fixed the brackets with some nice stainless M6...

Engineered wood flooring, bitumen and wonky kitchen floor...

I'll be in a similar situation to you in the near future.... my 60's built bungalow has Marley tiles stuck down to all the floors throughout the whole property. Bear in mind if your place is of a similar build construction to mine, this is your damp proofing as well! So any levelling compound...

Any uPVC Window Fitters On Here? Quick Q…

About to fit a new uPVC window into a new opening in a kitchen. Although I'm generally familiar with the process, I haven't fitted one myself before. Is the best way to level and fix the cill the wall first with frame fixings, and then the window to the cill using normal screws. Or fix the...

    Freesat+

Everything I've ever read states no chance of HD on regular Freeview as not enough bandwidth. If you want (free) HD then Freesat is what you need and indeed is the main attraction, but not really at the mo as there's not much on there yet... Anyone know when there will be some decent...

Best treatment for internal solid oak doors

Not sure how that happened, always read this forum using the recent posts link, and that thread must have come up but didn't realise it's age.... very strange.... But anyway, yeah - so what?!

Best treatment for internal solid oak doors

Just recently done all my oak doors, skirting and architrave with Osmo hard wax clear matt finish. Superb stuff, very easy to apply and really natural feel and finish. I've applied 3 coats to get a very slightly 'waxy' feel.

    Makita BDF451 and BHP451

Always had Bosch stuff myself (now junk IMHO), but recently made the change to Makita and think the quality is superb. If you're thinking of investing in the Makita 18V Li-Ion range, probably works out cheaper to buy the 6 pack set rather than buying individually. Bought most of my Makita...

    Makita BDF451 and BHP451

I had this same question when I was looking at the two drills. I decided on the BHP451 and absolutely love it, easily the best all round cordless drill I've ever owned. Really surprised at the other comment about it's lack or "power", on the slowest speed it's torque is incredible, actually...

    Fused Outlet for Electric UFH

Planning to install a 1.5 kW Varme cable type electric UFH system under a tiled kitchen floor. The manufacturer advises connection to the ring main via a fused spur. Now my existing electrical system was updated approx 10 years ago with a split load CU with RCD on the ring main. As there will...

    VW Passat thermostat problem

Why do you need to change the stat? These cars do suffer from temp sensor failures, causing the gauge to drop to zero, just wondered if this might be the actual fault?

    TV/FM socket

In the past I have used an RF tee-piece to supply the TV and FM signals from one ariel cable. Worked OK with no loss of quality on either TV or radio.
