    Cheap Tools

I've just got a second hand makita cordless double kit. Drill/driver and impact driver, 2 batteries and charger for £44. It's the red batteries. Hopefully more than suitable for Diy. Good working order (obviously that is from the seller). Should speed up getting the utility room done too!

    Cheap Tools

That's another thing. I've borrowed tools in the past, and I have to say the condition of some of them is unbelievable, half the time I expect things to not work because they're not looked after. On a side note, buying a job lot of tools for £20 quid. Screw drivers, pliers of various types, and...

Do you know what, gardening would be alright but then I wouldn't have an excuse to put doing my garden off for another year

Thanks for the input. Won't rule it out, as I'm careful whatever courses and training I do could be the safety net I need if I was to go outside. Thanks again for the honest input. The search continues!

Thanks for the reply. I should make my position clear on the work I wish to carry out. Fittings, such as lights, switches, plug sockets, appliances (hobs, ovens etc), and any tidying up of wires. I'm not looking to crack a course then start rewiring high rise flats. I'm looking for a few hours...

Yeah, I doubt I would need any type of foundation course, I can take my shoes off if I get stuck counting. One of the the questions I wanted answering was actually about these courses. Will they get me qualified? In a legal sense, on paper. The course might not train me in anything and just give...

This was the type of advice I was after. What I wanted to know really, was these courses on offer that offer you the chance to be fully qualified on paper, is that sufficient to begin to start work. Most of them require you to complete practical on the job experience that is supervised and...

I know nothing, I can only change the face plates on switches and sockets, and change light fittings. Even then I'm sweating in case I blow up, mains is off for all of it, rather than a particular circuit.

That's the plan, I've saw some courses that do part time learning. That's the route I'll go down, being able to fit it in around work will be tricky but some providers say they can sort that. I should point out, I wont be paying for it, so I'm willing to gamble it, if only to get the skill set...

Morning lads, I've been toying with the idea of getting qualified in a trade, to give me the ability to carry out my own work in that field, and to give myself secondary income. I like the idea of doing electrical work, and from what I've seen I can do the courses part time (must fit in with...

    Cheap Tools

I've got a Bosch hammer drill. Used it for all kinds, pleased with it but it's a pain for small jobs, and the cords aren't particularly long so most of the time I have to get an extension roll out too. I was browsing today, and just now saw what looks like a nice offer on screw fix. Two...

    Cheap Tools

I agree, this is the case in most equipment I've used. The predicament is being able to pay for it now. I think I'm going probably going to go with the inefficient method of get cheap bits that I need now, and replacing them as they drop out. Managed to get a nice corded bosch drill on offer...

    Cheap Tools

Hello lads, Just been shopping around for some tools. Specifically cordless combi drills and impact drivers. I was looking at all the obvious brands (bosch, makita etc) and they're very steep for 18v variants. Then I saw the wicked/b and q cheap ones. Considerably cheaper for the same paper...

    Paint /wallpaper ideas

We have just done our living room. We have a grey paint, and some patterned wallpaper. The grey has enough colour substance, but is not too dark. The wallpaper is a grey pattern on a white background, and matches perfectly with the paint. With the white skirting, door frames and architrave...

    Spray painting curtain rail

I pondered this. The large sickle hooks don't actually touch the runner, the hooks move along by a wheel. We are looking to keep, as curtain poles and the like are expensive for half decent ones. This one is fully functional, and I have the materials to paint it, and Im keen on the idea of...

    Spray painting curtain rail

Morning guys, I've got two old metal curtain rails with a pulley system. My plan is to get them sprayed/painted matt black to go with our decorating so far. The old strings and handles will be replaced too. I just need some advice on the prep. I have no idea what metal it is, all I can say is...
