Things That Go Bang in the Night!

I have a Siemens CU fitted with an 80A/30mA RCCB that covers the whole ring main & cooker. A couple of nights back there was a bang like a power supply letting go & the RCCB tripped. The bang seemed to come from the general direction of the kitchen but I can't be sure. No physical evidence or...

Riello Oil Burner Oil Supply Issue

Ah right. Well it's been there around 20 years & hasn't failed yet...

Riello Oil Burner Oil Supply Issue

So, as no one like a thread with no conclusion, here's the end to this one. Removed the filter bowl (which was full of crud) turned on the gate valve & nothing. Turns out the tank is empty! It's an old metal job that from rough calcs is around 900l. There's a clear viewing tube rising after the...

    Riello RDB Oil Leak

Now you tell me! Oh well, next time... :D

    Riello RDB Oil Leak

While I wait for a pro to service it & give an opinion on motor/bearings, I've replaced the needle valve (£17) & the leak is cured. Not sure I'd agree that changing the pump would have been easier for a novice, given the limited access to the securing screws. Looks easy on a bench but less so at...

    Riello RDB Oil Leak

Looks like you're right, the solenoid & valve stem were covered in oil. Given that the valve is OK, presumably just a case of replacing the O ring? Given that the locking nut sits it a recess on the pump body, what's the best way to remove it, box spanner? I did find the knurled nut that locks...

    Riello RDB Oil Leak

Thanks again. Any tips for cleaning the pump body completely of oil so I can hopefully see any leak or new deposits?

    Riello RDB Oil Leak

Thanks guys. Dismantling sounds a bit above my pay grade so as it's due a service anyway, think I'll get a Pro in. A bearing was replaced last time it was serviced a couple of years ago as it was noisy. Noise levels were reduced but not completely, although it's hard to remember what they were...

    Riello RDB Oil Leak

I appear to have a small leak from the oil pump. Looks to be coming from the joint between the pump cover & main body. But that's only based on where the oil lands on a piece of kitchen roll placed under the pump. I can't actually see it as it's both inaccessible & just a weep. So could...

Riello Oil Burner Oil Supply Issue

Thanks again, appreciated. I'll order the parts & have a go next time I visit the property. Will update.

Riello Oil Burner Oil Supply Issue

Thanks. Can you please ID the filter &/or recommend a replacement? Is the missing screw significant? Edit Looks like a W4 WASP & the "missing" screw is absent on a new one!

Riello Oil Burner Oil Supply Issue

Trying to fire a boiler that's been unused for a year. Pump has the usual hex extension with allen head bleed screw. The bleed process seemed to go OK but took a lot of attempts as the pump only seems to run for 5 seconds before locking out. But I eventually got a decent stream of fuel & the...

    Custom Planed Timber?

Thanks - now why didn't I think of that?

    Custom Planed Timber?

I need to replace the centre slat support on a double bed. It sits in a bracket like a miniature joist hanger but it's an odd size (50mm x 21mm). Do any of the national builders merchants offer a custom planing service? There are online suppliers but the cost with delivery is uneconomical.

    Testing Honeywell v4073a1039

If I had a replacement valve I'd change it, but as you know, the replacement has been lost in the post. So telling me to change it really isn't useful at all. So while I'm waiting for another valve to arrive it would be quite useful to know how to stop the rads getting hot.

    Testing Honeywell v4073a1039

The plot thickens. I ordered a complete valve from Ebay but with my luck the bloody thing's gone AWOL in the post. While I try to source a replacement I had a couple of ideas, both of which have only served to confuse me further. So I really need some help here guys. Firstly I thought I'd...

    Testing Honeywell v4073a1039

So the CH picks one of the hottest days of the year to malfunction. :( Came in this evening while the HW cycle was running & noticed that the rads were hot. The system is fitted with a Honeywell V4073A1039 three-way valve. If I understand correctly, the valve must be somehow stuck in it's...

    Creda C366e Service Manual

I believe the controller for the main oven needs replacing as it cuts power intermittently when turned back to off. This kills the timer clock & throws it into auto mode. It's occasionally happened while cooking, causing the oven to shut off. The part seems readily available & not too expensive...
