    carpet and skirting board painting

The quadrant trim is to cover the expansion gap needed for the wood/laminate floor. Personally I think the skirting and quadrant would look better painted together. Try and slide masking tape under the trim or use cardboard to prevent it running onto the floor. You can remove the trim, just...

Making a garage more useful - not converting

Google peg board and that would give you plenty of options for alternative peg boards to what you have now.As you will know hanging tools or trays/ boxes for screws etc. You can put the pegs in which ever formation you want and is flexible in that you can reposition the legs should you buy new...

    carpet and skirting board painting

The gripper rods holding the carpet in position will most likely have to be removed to give to the clearance to remove the old skirting. Once the new skirting is installed the gripper rods can be put back in place and the carpet put back down. It may be worth considering an small angle pry bar...

    Outdoor Kitchen/Grill Area

Looks absolutely superb, do you get the weather up there to make the most of it? Perhaps a roof would be worth considering. Either way congratulations, Mrs G must be proud

    Grout depth - prefilling needed?

You can do but check how much movement you have in the tiles. If the sub-floor has movement in it you will be fighting a loosing battle with cracking grout. Ask me how I know. Was tempted to try a silicone type product or caulk for better flexibility but moved house before it got that serious

NHBC settlement on leaking bay roof

When we claimed with the NHBC around 2014 they sent out their surveyor who acknowledged the fault and provided an assessment report. They organised for one of their roofing contractors to contact me and sort the repair. It turned out our adjoining neighbour had the same issue so they were able...

    Restore or replace Grout?

Try and bleach spray first on the grout. Leave it for a while and scrub with a stiff brush then rinse. Worth trying that before going to too much trouble

Slow going - my double storey extension build

Personally I think the costs are really helpful. I am also in the North West and have ideas of an extension at some point so this is a really useful guide. It also highlights the pitfall costs which hadn’t been factored in or were not included at quotation stage. Hopefully you have a healthy...

    Cracks on the driveway

Would suggest using a jet wash to clean the blocks. I would also aim to replace the damaged ones rather than trying to repair. It will stand out like a sore thumb

Can you not remove all the wall paper on that part of the wall and paint to match the wallpaper colour?

    Identifying wood floor finish

What are you trying to achieve here? What do you mean by a spruce up? Are you intending to sand the floor but have concerns with the coating?

    Bathroom tile removal issue...

Difficult to tell from the pictures but would get something behind the loose end and once one tile is out work your way across. Did they dot and dab because the wall isn’t straight?

    Railway sleeper brackets

Difficult to envisage what you are doing but the brackets don’t appear particularly durable. May not matter depending what load will be placed on the sleeper, perhaps not much if only single tier
