    Windpost erection

The merchant I used was Parker Building Supplies but I don't think they're a nationwide outfit like Travis or Jewsons. You're probably aware but Ancon do a galvanised version which is cheaper than the stainless steel one's that have been specced for this job. Ancon load the price for private...

    Windpost erection

I can understand where you're saying they certainly ain't cheap. They were made by Ancon and ordered through a local merchant. I had to have four and they were £180 each plus VAT including all the fixing bolts and ties which was cheaper than getting them direct from Ancon. Hope this helps.

    Windpost erection

Just an update in case anyone's interested. Successful erection achieved. Surprisingly straight forward in fact and they are quite stable even without bracing with M10 anchors into the concrete. Thanks to oldun and Tony for advice.

    Windpost erection

Thanks oldun I'll give a go. They are Ancon. Is the 90 degree fixing bracket an accessory then? All they've given me are shield anchors and the ties for the brick/block work. I live in the mountainous region of Sussex known as the South Downs.

    Windpost erection

They are from Ancon and as oldun suggests in the next post they have a flat plate 100mm wide at the bottom with two bolt holes to fix to the concrete. They are 5mm U section and top heavy beacause of a large top fixing plate which I guess in most applications where these are specified would be...

    Windpost erection

Thanks for responding Tony. They have been specified by an SE and in the reams of calculations there doesn't appear to be any info on temporary support. I'll try contacting the SE for suggestions. Would you say it's reasonable for the SE to provide this information as they have specified their use?

    You're right. Shouldn't have used that word.......windpost.

    Windpost erection

I seriously doubt wether these are needed at all but we've got them now so we just as well use them. They are very heavy and I'm after some advice on how to brace them into position so you can build them in. There are four of them all bolted down to the concrete and concealed in the cavity...

    PP amendments

Hi Luis No conservation area rules apply to the build and I will ring the LA on Tuesday as you suggest. I was hoping to start on a shopping list of materials over the weekend hence the original question but I guess it can wait a few more days. Thanks for the heads up regarding 56 days...

    PP amendments

Thanks Tony I think you may be right. One flank wall is 11m long so that may explain it. Its got three openings in it though and there is no mention of any specific movement joint on the drawings. I knew there was probably a reason but couldn't fathom it out. As you say even with common...

    PP amendments

Hi Tony Thanks for responding. He muttered something about shrinkage/cracking, of the render I'm assuming, but seems a bit over the top to me. Does that me the planners get another eight weeks to mull it over if we do go for a change? .

    PP amendments

Would changing the finish on an extension, to be started shortly, constitute a material or non-material amendment? For example changing from render to face brickwork. It's just that I was expecting to be able to use blocks under the render but the SE has specified brick. No doubt there's a...

    Not another Party wall question.

Thanks for everyone's input on this. I think the technologist is approaching it from a belt and braces cover all eventualities angle which is kind of understandable. I suppose I have the advantage of knowing the depth of the neighbouring foundations which, I imagine, could be quite difficult to...

    Not another Party wall question.

Thanks Tony I'll have to develop a backbone regarding this. I suppose like many householders you go along with the advice your given without giving it a lot of thought or daring to challenge it but this particular procedure seems a bit OTT.

    Not another Party wall question.

Thanks CJ. That sounds like good advice. I've already indicated that if I damage his property I would be happy to pay for it to be rectified. Didn't think of photos though so I'll mention that to him. The technologist who's drawing the plans up is fairly insistent that it needs to be done...

    Not another Party wall question.

Hoping for a bit of advice regarding the following. I have planning permission to extend my home and the single storey side extension will end up within 2m of the neighbours extended side elevation. He's in the property game himself and has told me that the depth of his foundations on...

Drill damage to 15mm Gas pipe

Put the drill on the floor. Now kick the drill over towards me. Place your hands on your head and very slowly walk over to my colleague who is qualified to carry out these types of operations.

Can a boiler flue have 2 90o bends & run downwards?

If it's in a stairwell and partially blocking access to your flat I would call the local authority and get a building inspector out to have a look especially if it's your route out of the building if there's a fire. Was there a boiler there before?

    Considering Boiler upgrade

What about the Viessmann 242? Similar to 222 but has a solar coil for use at a later date.
