    Lateral restraints.

ahh, definitely got no problems doing it properly.. only I didn't know if the truss clips and angle straps would be better than using lots of twist types. As it happens this is going to be a mono pitched roof.. so I'll be avoiding any flat roofs!!.. I have long had problems with flat roof s...

    Wall plates? I'm desperate!!

that's cool, mate... only the height of the block wall is 2 courses of bricks higher than the brick wall (about half a block higher. Would I need to remove some of the blocks to get the same level as the bricks (before adding the slate on)... or would it be better to take the brick leaf...

    Lateral restraints.

depends what you mean by a bent strap. 90 degree or the twist type? I suppose by your answer the truss clips and a few 90 degree straps at 1200mm space would be the best option?

    Lateral restraints.

hi, Is it possible to only use twist straps when securing roof rafters to a wall? I ask as it seems more expensive to you truss clips and "hook" type lateral restraints. So by using the twist type, surely this would eliminate the need for truss clips?

    Wall plates? I'm desperate!!

They redirected me to someone else who knows nothing about the job, so I thought i'd wait.. that way I don't have to explain everything twice... should I remove some of the blocks on the inside wall.. to make it lever with the brickwork... and then mortar in the slate before building up with...

    Wall plates? I'm desperate!!

Hi, can someone give me a breif idea of how my cavity closer will go on the top of this wall? I know the wall plate and facia boards need to be attached, but thats not my problem.. The insulation is going to be "blown" in at a later date. Building control were ok with this. however, im...

    Approx cost for rendering wall?

generally its £25 per square meter, but this is for internal plastering. I expect rendering that high will be much more. I would suggest getting 3 quotes and going from there.

    Boading out a detached garage

it sounds like your going really overkill just to store a few boxes? just simply sit a big sheet of 18mm ply over the trusses? it will take the weight of a person, and a few boxes i'm sure!

    Need advice insulating garage

hmm, to be honest the whole thing is a bad idea. either rebuild the stud wall, and replace the window and doors or get a powerful heater? I expect most of the cold will be coming from the garage door?

Where to put our curtain tracking? Help

personally I would never drill or fix anything into a plastic window frame. they are simply not designed for it. and in the worst case situation, it can make your windows leak. the best thing to do its to find a good place in the ceiling part of the alcove. you may need some special...

    Shower query

well, to put it plainly "a combie usually provides enough hot water for your needs"... however I have no idea how much hot water your particular combie produces. filling a few jugs of hot water is not a difficult task... even if you check the temperature at the same time :)

what "sheet" material should I make my Garden shed

In my experience, there is so much wood involved when building sheds, its just as cheap to go and buy one then but the wood and make it yourself. I personally used some 20mm x 150mm lengths of wood for the sides, and used chipboard for the floor and roof. The roof was finished with roofing...

Don't fancy paying £3,500 so how to make this cheaper?

the more heavy the metal the stronger it is. if you need to ask what you need to build it then I would suggests its outside your joinery knowledge. however since you have asked, I will answer... you will need a suitable strong shelf racking system and some very decorative wood. the...

    New House - System Advice

I don't know how reliable it is as I have personally never heard of this make. however, it will never be as economical as a combie boiler. your boiler heats up an entire large tank before it gives you hot water, where as a combie simply heats water as it comes out the tap. therefore a...

    Steel Framed Houses

hmm I have no experience of surveying, so don't take my answer as set in stone. I can only give a personal opinion, not a professional one!. Personally I couldn't care less what its made of as long as its safe, dry and secure. In-fact, it may be better to have a steel roof. they are...

    2 washing machines 1 drain

I would assume a 2" pipe would cope, but I wouldn't bet on it. tying into the soil pipe the same way as the previous way is best. alternatively, can you not just connect it to the sink waste trap?

    glossing gone wrong help!!

harliegirl, Im only commenting on this as I (and most other people) relise that you don't quite know what you're doing.... OK, as patronising as that sounds, its actually not meant in a bad way.. you simply need someone to show you how to do it (a little difficult to get the information...

    Flat Mesh?

Hi, part of my extension, I'm gonna be pouring a large pad-stone, about 600x600 wide but about 450mm deep. I have been told to place some mesh in the bottom of my hole before I fill it with concrete. however I was not to clear on what I needed. I "think" I need a flat mesh made of metal...
